Well, they do here! None of us want Iran with a nuclear weapon. And we certainly don't want the Iranians playing us off against each other. So we hold firm to the plan. The fact that it is so easy for Iran is exactly why we don't allow hostages to be used as leverage against us. Think! Look Huckleberry, the weapons negotiations were going on well before these people got themselves arrested. Actually three are Iranians with American citizenships and the fourth was a CIA contractor. It's complicated.
Yep, and I'm not saying we should adopt the Kremlin Cookbook for terrorist disposal but I don't think any other country would have entered these talks without the release of their people as a precursor to "hello"
And they had a couple of thousand captured in Afghanistan and couldn't do shit about it. Hostages are a problem for everybody and we have as good a record for getting ours back as anybody.
First you have to remember that we are not the only nation negotiating with Iran. As Red mentioned we are just one of several that have been a part of these negotiations. Further, the focus of these talks was to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and I believe that this agreement will achieve that. To detract from that focus could have been a deal killer. You have to understand how sensitive negotiations like this can be. This all said, once this agreement is ratified, and presuming Iran acts right, I think some credibility will start to form between the two countries that might better allow for us to negotiate the release of those prisoners.
There are at least 19 Iranians being held prisoner in America. If our prisoners were allowed into the nuclear weapons talks, so would theirs. Not a good trade. We have the opportunity to make a much better prisoner deal now.
Really? You are so ate up with it. Do you have an Obama poster on your wall? 19 huh? I think the going rate for Barry is 5/1 so we could have goten back 3 of ours and kept 4 of theirs.
Do you really believe the Iranians would back out of getting the sanctions lifted over a few prisoners? That's like saying you would back out of getting a new car for next to nothing because the dealer wouldn't throw in a free pair of fuzzy dice.
Measuring your success against someone's failures assures a downward spiral...which is what we currently have.
