Now that Grimes sees just exactly what he has, he'll have to fix the problem in recruiting. Bad OL recruiting has taken it toll. Collins and Pocic are the only ones that SHOULD be starting. Get the hell out of Louisiana for your OL's. Go up North a lot more. Gotta have 5 big, strong and smart guys that play together as one unit, know their reads and can pick up blitz's. We don't have that currently.
After the fake punt, Hawkins was pulled, Washington was put in, Grimes was making a statement. If Hawkins stays one more year, he will have a shot to go in the first three rounds of the NFL draft. With a little more work, I could see top two rounds. He will need another year. Brave, what you are saying, they were doing in the 4th Q, very well. Like I say, a hat on a hat. Then again, I want to see Hawk as he learns during the season. He can make major steps this year. Listen to this one, the first OL coach Les had at LSU was Stacy Searels, in the off season, Les had a shot to get him back. Remember, Mack Brown and his staff was being let go. Stacy was the OL coach at UT. Les and Cam went up to Va Tech and got Grimes. Oh, the guy that took Grimes place, yep, Stacy Searels.
Whats wrong with La. players? Signed, Todd McClure, Kevin Mawae, Josh Boutte, Hawkins, La'el, Trai Turner (NFL Draft pick last year after Soph season), Porter, Chris Faulk, Josh Dworaczyk, etc.
Even better than Yeldon, Henry, and/or Drake? Can't imagine Bama's line won't be formidable by the time we play them. Wisky's RB may have better individual numbers b/c he is the primary back, but I'll bet any of these 3 are as good or better.
The replay is on CBSSN. The 1st half is just as ugly watching it for the 3rd time as it was Saturday night.
If they were they would be the feature back. Georgia is the only SEC team with a feature back as good as Gordon, I think. And we don't play him unless its in the SECCG. We will certainly face formidable lines this year, but I doubt one as good as Wisconsin's, NFL material all along the line.
Oh I agree he will be fine, I was just dissapointed in his performance, I expect him to be the next high draft pick at D-end, just was let down a little.
My take on the good, bad, and ugly: 1) good: LSU pulled it out, which, if nothing else, creates a mindset that molds a team....let alone keeps you in the chase. 2) good: Your D backs can play. 3) not bad, but worry-some: Both teams have to have some concern regarding their qb's ability to come through when needed. Neither seems to be a great passer...and may be prone to some bad decision-making. 4) bad for Wiskey: when you run a 3-4 D, your nose tackle play is vital. When Herring and the D end went down, the Wissies got exposed...their back-ups are a real step down. 5) no ugly for LSU....your players stepped up as the game wore on....and you found some consistency. 6) ugly for Wiskey: The coach has been forced all week to try to explain Gordon only getting three touches in the second half (when Gordon said he didn't know why either!!) and why Stave, who started all 13 games last year at QB didn't play.....and their coach handling each question in a way that only caused more questions. There isn't a team out there that benefits from locker room chatter....
