Anyone who puts 8 or 9 men in the box. I think Cameron will pass long on those guys until they pull their safeties back.
That's going to need to come soon, SEC play is right around the corner. I'm very satisfied with what I've seen from the passing game so far. However SEC defenses will be a much bigger test. The first option won't always be open, coverage will be tighter and the pass rush will be better. Both have shown they have the talent, but they are still very inexperienced and in the early stages of their learning the position.
Worse, the defenses will be far more sophisticated. Coverages will be disguised, linebackers will fake blitzes, linemen will shift and stunt, substitutions will be frequent. SEC defenses, especially Nick's defense, are designed to confuse quarterbacks. It may pay for Cameron to keep things simple for as long as he can to keep his young quarterbacks from biting on fake coverages or checking off to the wrong play.
It's not weather we get them or not, its the mindset. It appears the 2 yards and a cloud of dust is not how we are going to play anymore. Our opposing teams are not going to just have to protect against the slow, methodical, get what you can type of offense. We are more aggressive now and it keeps the defense covering the whole field. But to answer your question, I don't really expect we will put up those numbers against the meat of the conference, but at least there is a goal in site.
Totally agree. Long gone are the days of 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Cameron has our offense built around a very aggressive downfield passing attack. Force the safeties back so we can run the ball that much better. The only thing missing in this Cam Cameron constructed offense is the screen pass and incorporating the TE in the seams. I do believe Fournette will develop into a potent short passing game back (middle screens, flares out in the flat, etc).
My only concern (and it's a small concern) is the screen, and the slant. Honestly I haven't seen a qb throw the comeback route as precise as Jennings has. That throw to Diarse on the TD, when Diarse made his move and turned around the damn ball was already there. That ball was thrown before Diarse broke on the route. Absolutely beautiful. And then Diarse did is best Early Doucet impersonation and broke all kinds of tackles for the score. That right there tells me Jennings has what it takes to be a qb in this league.
