I was finally able to watch the game last night. It was just Sam Houston St but that was impressive. LSU did what they were suppose to do. The game was over early. The ball was spread around with great mix of run and pass. It was a big improvement in all facets. This was the type of game LSU needed. Wow, the young talent on this team is just plain scary. Dural is so much like OBJ. He has awesome top end speed. He makes the circus catch, but does need improvement in catching it cleaner. He has a very high ceiling. Quinn is so polished for so young. He catches everything so cleanly, great hands. Similar to Landry, but with more speed and quickness, but less physicality. Dupre has it all. He is really good be on the Green and Jones level. If and when Harris gets it, look out. His arm is AMAZING. The OL and especially the DL need some work. THe LB's have so much talent but they have not improved for so many of them being JR's. Known is the only one who would be playing on an old school, dominant LSU D. The secondary is going to be great for years to come. Most other coaches would have ran up 70+ points. Miles was classy and called off the horses early on. However, I could not fault him had he kept using this game for the practice.
I'm relatively sure that the Heisman pose was done in jest. Unfortunately, Leonard did not have the foresight to understand that very few would see it that way. I can relate as I often have an extremely dry sense of humor that often goes misinterpreted. In his mind, he's thinking, "Walk-in score against an FCS team; this will be so ridiculous that of course everyone should know it's a huge joke." It was poor judgment on his part any way you slice it, but I don't think it was as ill-intended as it's being made out to be. What's staggering to me is how diverse the offense has been. And I don't just mean in terms of how many different players are getting involved, which is remarkable in its own right. What I'm referring to is how many different looks we're showing and how many different plays we've run. The current scouting report on our O has to be a mile long. We've run I-formations, single-back sets, options, zone-reads, horizontal passes, vertical passes, passes to the RBs, two RB sets, and so on. We've run out of passing formations and passed out of running formations. And to make it even more exciting, we're executing all of it expertly. I know it's just an FCS team, but execution is execution, and it's been something we've had trouble with even against the lesser schools at times in the past. This is encouraging because, when conference play starts, those teams will start to zero-in on our perceived strengths, so we should be able to counter with different looks. Jennings appears to have complete command of the playbook, and is making excellent decisions. Some of the placements of his throws Saturday night were very, very impressive. I'm really liking the progress that we've seen out of him, and he appears to be a great leader for the team. And, of course, Harris is just a complete freak of nature. The sky is the limit for this offense.
Listen people, I go to fan day every year with my son and he is almost 22 years old. Both of us interact with the players a good bit. Although he is working full time, engaged, and shows a responsible attitude, I notice around others his age the immaturity comes out. I see the same thing in these football players when we interact and joke with them, while most of them are walking around in a man's body they are still immature. I think that is why it is difficult to keep them focused on big games that require their full attention. They are still kids at times and when they get emotional they do kid things. The pose by LF was just that, a mimic of what he has seen others do. If you want to blame somebody, blame Desmond Howard he started that. These kids were in high school just a few months ago, lets give them some time to grow up before we crucify their actions. Les has this under control, sit back and enjoy.
Ok, want to guess what LSU coach was at Mich coaching Desmond? If your answer is Les, you would be wrong. Cam was up in Mich coaching him. Your trivia for today
So much for Fournette being humble!! Against a cupcake team you do that? Wow. Did you see Ricky Jean on the Colts' sidelines Sunday with LSU tape under his pads? I looked it up and found it here http://www.signatureathletictape.com/product/louisiana-state-university/ Pretty sick
Good analysis Red and cannot find too much to disagree with. On the Fournette Heisman pose, while I found it immature, unbecoming of a teammate and unsportsmanlike, I also understand he is 18 and for that reason I will give him a pass. If he doesn't learn from it and continues to make such errors in judgement I'll rethink it but for now he's good. I read someone say it, "Only LSU fans are talking about it at this point," and that is probably a good way to sum it up. All in all, was highly impressed with what I saw and cannot wait to see how this team progresses through this season. At one time I would have discounted the possibility of a championship season (SEC or NC) just because of our youth, but the game has changed a lot and it might be more possible than ever to pull off a championship run with young'uns.
That's not true, I heard people trashing him on the radio today, opposing fans trashing him, and on ESPN he has been turned into a punchline. He was even on come on man. LSU fans have been the only ones who have said yeah it was stupid, but we give him a pass.
