THE GOOD: 1. The defense is solid as hell. Only gave up one big play. 2. We can line up in the I and run power football to eat up clock and protect a lead. 3. Randle is a good downfield blocker. So is Murphy 4. Ridley may have the right stuff. We will be deep at running back. 5. Our reserve quarterback's one pass was quick, crisp and hit the receiver in stride. 6. Williford can run block very well. 7. We get to finally play at home next week. THE BAD: 1. The kickoffs and punts were unspectacular 2. Jefferson's passing was very poor and behind the action 3. Kicking high and short to Peterson works to keep him from making returns 4. Three fumbles. 5. The option ain't working for Jefferson, but he does run a good QB draw. THE UGLY: 1. Our starting quarterback is the weak link on offense right now.
I like a good running game, so I was very pleased about that. JJ was worrisome, and receivers dropping the ball didn't help. One thing I was very glad to see was that we pulled it out DESPITE special teams being unspectacular. Now that everyone has seen Peterson against UNC, they know how they have to cover him in special teams. I know it's Vandy, but it's hard to be mad about 27-3.
Chase, I'll say this. The balls did hit the receivers hands. But JJ did not put ONE pass on the money in the first half. Not one. It's not that easy to contort your body and catch a ball that's where you USED to be. Even if they catch it, they can't do anything with it, because the flow of the play is destroyed.
I thought Ford looked real good, but the game was over and their D was tired. I was glad to see him in the game.
The positives more than out weigh the negatives. JJ was awful and as was said earlier couldn't hit the ocean from a boat. Remember last week he was much better. Crowton did nothing to help him. He needed to call plays that made it easier for him to get in a sync. The D was as it should have been dominate. They did much to correct last weeks mistakes. There is a lot of hope for that unit being one of LSU's best.
