Why is it that we shouldn't demand true balance? In this new era you're speaking of if LSU is the No. 1 team why shouldn't they be able to be balanced? We recruit top talent at every position.

You don't see being balanced as an absolute for winning it all so let me ask you, LSU has the best overall record but how many titles do they have in the new era you speak of? Right. None.

Until proven otherwise, balance is absolutely required to win it all. LSU did more than anyone to solidify that view last year.

Well, Bama is a team that runs to set up the pass. I want to see Mett utilize the play action pass off the running game more. The TE and hitting backs out of the backfield are a major asset that we have not been using for the last several years. I feel that it is coming. I would rather that than the WR screens. This would be help when playing against agressive LB's.

    I"m glad your celebrating.

I'm hoping he makes the practice squad. Rumors are that he will. They've left two spots open. There's a good chance he'll get one of them.

I don't think anyone is celebrating. I also think no one is surprised. JL is good when protected, but awful in the face of pressure.

I love the title of this thread. I think the schedule worked out to our advantage this year. Having a new QB and wideouts and having to start a new DB gave us time to work out the kinks. As long as we imporve game to game we should be fine. I think the ugly should have been left out of the title. I look at it as things we need to work on including Mett's recognition of uncovered defenders.

Dude .. ok ...you don't like his QB play ... that's fine. I did. .. and I think he could have been even better than he was.

But that aside .. I don't see why you have to be so hostile about people wanting their team to show a little something they haven't seen in 4-5 years. I like Mett .. and want to see him be all he can be. Like I said .. throwing the bubble screens and 30-40 yarders is not the bread and butter of passing, IMO. It's those move the chains in a pinch passes that establish a threat .. .those 10-15 yarders.

I'm tired of a team that always comes in second. I mean ... really ... yeah .. we "won" in Bama last year .. but you won't find a single person outside of an LSU fan who thinks we actually "beat" bama last year ... even a lot of LSU fans will admit that we didnt beat them .. but we did win.

I'd like to see LSU earn the respect it deserves. I'd like to see LSU viewed as the talking heads speak of other top tier programs. Ask any analyst right now .. and they would predict that Bama would walk all over LSU. I'd rather that situaiton be reversed.

So ... tell .. just what the hell is wrong with wanting to see that??

The only time you NEED balance is when your unbalanced attack is not successful. All victors need only win by one point.

Those of you wishing we should throw it more to tight ends need to realize that...our tight ends suck at catching the ball. That's why we recruited pass catching TEs this year.

None of our tight ends are good receivers. They're blockers.

I wasn't aware that the only passes our WRs can catch are bubble screens and Hail Mary's.

Personally I just want to keep defenses from crowding the box by throwing down field passes. Not 20+ yard passes but 10 - 15 yard quick strikes to the sidelines. If we're able to get 300 yards rushing when a stacked box imagine how well we'll do if another team can't put everyone in to stop the run.

    Totally agree.

I don't like the bubble screen, It seems to need the element of surprise to work for us...and it's not, at least the way we run it. Maybe it's a spread thing.

I'm hoping Miles/Kragthorpe are not running what will be our better passing plays in these non conference gimme games. I hope that what we saw wasn't our passing arsenal.

What I did like about the passing game was that Mett looked accurate on a variety of passes. The thing that excited me the most was the screen passes as well as the slant over the middle. LSU has to really get the ball in Landry's hands a lot this year. I'm beginning to think that he's better than Beckham AND Randle. He looks like he can catch anything.

I believe that the coaches will really try to get the ball into the hands of the backs. Blue, Hilliard, Ware especially look like they'll be dangerous catching the ball out of the backfield. I think that this year, we'll see a lot of play action to those guys instead of passes to the TEs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few trick plays in which Shep is operating out the backfield.
