I think we looked good last night given the circumstances. We didn't look "dominant" but, it's N Texas. They threw every thing they had and a bag chips and came hard every play. I think Les Miles message to his team was just go have fun. I think this Team will buckle down when needed (Oregon, West V, Bama, all big games last year) and will do so again this year. But week one is when you are supposed to work kinks, experiment with certain plays, basically "live practice" if you will. There is no doubt in my mind that this team is special. They had some miscues, but they will get them fixed and this will be a very very hard to beat team, in a very very hard to win stadium, that's going to have a very very special season. Our D dominated early and then turned on auto pilot. They were out to have fun and then let the youngsters in Deion Jones is going to be extremely special Our Running Game was having a blast, just creating more highlight tapes. ODB returning punts....sh!t, by week 5 teams won't be punting to him. Mett has the ability to win games if we need him to. But remember, Les Miles, LSU, will ALWAYS be run first! Always! LSU finally has the explosive playmakers on offense to finally win shoot outs (if ever needed) Our running game looks the best I've seen in a long time. I think Hilliard could emerge as a Heisman Candidate, he started breaking out in Arky, UGA games last year! ODB is future 1st round pick who will be chasing all LSU WR Records We don't need Mett to stretch the field, but I think he can and he will. There is a lot of youngsters on this team, and first time rotations, they will work out the kinks. I was most disappointed in our pass protection. The O-Line is our most veteran group and should be very angry with themselves for the amount of times Mett was hit last night. Can't compare LSU to Bama based on last nights two games. That's just dumb. LSU would have prepared much more, played much more conservatively on both O and D and shown much more dominance and methodical scheme play last night. Last night for LSU was a "go have fun, let's try a few plays in our play books we are not sure of yet, plug some youngsters in here and there, experiment with some rotations, live scrimmage" For Bama, they were playing for their season basically. LSU prepared for N Tex for 3 or 4 days, Bama prepared for Michigan the entire Summer. I completely disagree that "Bama would have taken us out" last night. Enjoy the win, enjoy your Holiday With your family. GEAUX TIGERS!
I'm really glad that folks are so scared of Bama already. They played competition last night that didn't look much better than ours. We didn't play a clean game, so I'll reserve judgement. If anything, Miles' gameplan was too conservative in the running game. We could've easily racked up 500 yards on running alone, but we passed just for the sake of passing.
I agree with Stacey! We would have taken a much different approach had we played Bama, and honestly, I think we would have and WILL beat Bama this year. Our D is the same, our Special Teams and Offense are MUCH better. Just my opinion.
Michigan had only one player to defend. Game 1 is a win. Next week should be a better measuring stick.
I think some of you are off point on those of us who were critical. You think the coaches aren't going to be critical of how they played? It was far from perfect on any end and those of us who see were the work needs to be to go 13-0 again are not angry turds for pointing that out. LSU is a good team at this point with many flaws. LSU will need a deep pass threat to beat a number of teams, including Bama. Bama is our target and I think you'd be hard pressed to find any player that thinks otherwise. We can't just beat them by 3 in OT this year. We have to cross the damn 50 and we have to pass the ball when we WANT to, not when we NEED to.
The coaches will have PLENTY of reasons to chew some ass in practice this week. We'll pass better, but it was obvious that Mett needs many reps to get some valuable experience that junior college did not do for him. But we will have a deep pass threat with him. And make no mistake, Bama IS our biggest threat. But it's hard to take away too much from their performance vs. ours last night. Last year, they started sloppy with a cupcake and we looked all-world against Oregon. But who are we kidding? We WERE all-world last year. Unfortunately, with that being our new bar, it may be hard to live up to this year.
Really? They played a top 10 team last night. We played North Texas. Not even close to being the same. We need to be able to pass the ball. We already know we can run it.
No, we had a stellar D, Very good Run game and an ass sniffer for QB. With these next 2 games, it is my humble opinion that our coaches need to let Mett air it out. We need to see it, and teams need to prepare for it. It is an absolute must that we do this. I will say this, our saving grace last year in the first Bama match up was that Bama had to prepare for Lee and JJ. You can bet your ass they only prepared for JJ after that loss, seeing Lee getting limited reps the rest of the way. We have to show a dual threat.
Do you honestly believe that Michigan is/was a top ten team? Or were they ranked that high because they were playing Bama in Jerry Jones' kick-off classic? I'm going to go with the latter. Michigan didn't look good at all. (And they weren't any good last year, either.) So why the high ranking? I'll answer that...for ratings for the big game.
