With kickers, most of it is mental. The miss would play on him, the one to win the game, gives the coaches and teammates a great feeling for the kid. He came up in the clutch.
Oh no I'm watching. You are a pretty smart guy. Well, until you answer this question; you have the ball up 3 late and deep in your own territory, are those the plays you call? If you say yes then I retract my previous statement on your football knowledge.
I get everything you're saying. I'm just saying a completion or two makes the kick much easier than a 50 yarder. The run play could have been very, VERY costly.
Could've been worse. AZ's kicker made their game winner, but USC got the time out just in time, the re-kick was missed and AZ lost.
the run worked because the kick worked. if we throw a screen for a pick 6 or even a sack taking us out of range, everyone wants to hang miles. we played for the kick and knew he was capable from that distance. also we should have been 5 yards closer for their delay of game. if we had missed the kick, then theres an argument and we see it all differently. but alas, this dude has god on his side.
Agreed, it worked. Ultimately that is all that matters. That said, I'd rather put it on my QB than a kicker. Even if I have all the confidence in him. I would still want to try to take it a bit closer. 50 yards is a pretty long distance and more percetage for a block or miss. I'd rather get it to within 40 if possible.
