I think Jennings played like Jennings. Same Jennings we saw vs. Arky & Iowa last year, along with all games this year. Jennings has not really gone either direction thus far, he seems to the be the same QB week in and week out with no real improvement from week to week. In other words, if the defense plays well, we can run the ball and control the clock we will win games with him under center. However, just not against good teams in which we would need to turn to a play maker at QB that Jennings just isn't built to be. Its extremely obvious the rest of this LSU team needs so much improvement is other areas to execute the game plan that this coaching staff wants. Until those areas (OL, DL, LB's all around communication) improve, we wont beat good teams. The QB position truly just adds insult to injury for this squad. My dad and I had the discussion last night, on one hand, if Jennings has reached his ceiling and Brandon Harris is the future, why is he not in there getting the much needed experience? Is Les Mile investing in Jennings over Harris or is Les Miles just giving LSU the best chance to win this season? Its truly a catch 22, Harris needs the experience to improve, but not as much as the rest of the team needs to see the W's on the board...... to improve their confidence, to show reward for the hard work they are putting in every week trying to get back to playing LSU Football. I think this win was huge for these guys, I am happy for them to get this win, and happy with the improvement over last week. One week at a time, one game at a time, keep working to improve, and hopefully with Ole Miss and Bama coming to Death Valley later this year, LSU can pull off a huge signature win this year. Gotta have a little faith in times like this.
Harris is a freshman and Jennings a sophomore, it's a little early to be writing Jennings off, and Harris in. Plus, the coaches are playing pound and ground, we're not going to see anything sophisticated from the QBs this year. This was the same game plan we used against mooU and Aubie, Florida is just worse.
Let me tell you about being up 3 points late in the game and NEEDING to run the clock out. Instead they play scared pussy ass football that gives the other team the ball back because they go 3 and out. They are then forced to rely on the old horseshoe. One day that damn thing will run out of magic.
You can keep believing that if you wish, @shane0911, but who is proven right more often with regard to LSU football and Miles?
Nice write up. I agree that AJ was smart with the ball. I also have to eat some words. While I think we should have been a bit more diverse the play calling was much better. THe coaches did a good job of motivating the players and calling a solid game. They mixed things up just enough. The biggest improvement was that LSU was ready to play early on. Fournette showed why he was the top player last year. Great vision. Kwon Alexander is a stud LB. He is the only LB we have though. The OL was consistently creating holes for the RB's. The DL was gashed at times but it a solid performance by them. I have to criticize the final drive. I would rather put the game on my QB and throw to get in better FG range than to chance a run and put it all on a kicker. Thankfully it worked out. I have critcized the coaches for Welter player more than Beckwith but him getting steamrolled by Driskell showed where he is right now. He had the play stuffed but didn't drive through him or wrap up. Must sure up the tackling. Despite AJ being smart, we must throw better. AJ tends to hold it too long. I think Harris deserved some playing time like he was suppose to get. Against a better O, LSU will have to throw better. The special teams were a huge let down when it came to the punt coverage. LSU is normally excellent in coverage but not as much this year. Why in the hell did Chavis not have deep coverage knowing with just over 2 mins UF would be throwing? Horrible end of game calling once again by Chavis.
If you don't mind Red, I'd like to add a Great to this week? I thought it was Great sportsmanship the LSU players showed to Pittman when he was down. Awesome moment and pure class shown when numerous players went dap him as they were ready to cart him off.
