possibly bad news for JR, calvin or brady quinn and definitely good news for USC. maybe hes waiting to take over the head gig. From the Oakland Raiders: Steve Sarkisian has taken his name out of the running for the head coaching position of The Oakland Raiders. The Oakland Raiders were not ready to offer the position and wanted to wait until after the weekend as the organization is still doing its due diligence. In addition, no commitment had come from Lane Kiffin, the offensive coordinator at the University of Southern California, that he would join Steve if the job had been offered as this past weekend was the big recruiting time at the school. From Steve Sarkisian, through the University of Southern California: "I was presented with a tremendous opportunity and experience of interviewing with Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders for their head coach position. I thank them for their interest in me. While the job was never offered to me, at this time in my career I've told them I want to stay at USC. I strongly believe that the Raiders job is a great opportunity for whomever their next head coach is going to be. "My goal is to be a head football coach in college and USC is the best place for me to attain that goal. I'm extremely fortunate to work at such a great university for a head coach in Pete Carroll who allows me to strive and achieve at the highest level."
I thought the stories about this were odd. I read that they were considering Sarkisian (QB coach) for the HC job, and Kiffin (OC) for the offensive coordinator slot. That would seem like an odd marriage. "Hey boss, now I'm your boss, and we both are leaving the preeminent college program to go to...the RAIDERS?" I must admit I was hoping they'd both go to Oakland, but it was a pipe dream.
