I read that article the other day. Very well written and valid points. I think he hits the nail on the head. Miles has done an excellent job up until the last few years. He has won more than anyone. That said, he does make mistakes that a HS coach probably wouldn't continually make. It is a dichotomy that we have lived with. I do think the most valid issue raised here is how many players the coached have missed on. LSU has lost a lot to the NFL but we also have lost a lot to suspension and transfers. Also LSU missed out on Dak Prescott, Eddie Lacy, and others who wanted to come to LSU but were passed on for whatever reason. I also agree that losing to Auburn is one thing but getting destroyed is another. That is unacceptable. Miles must dig deep. The coming weeks I think will determine where things go from here. The mind set of the team must be changed.
Amigo . . . In "the last few years" LSU has finished finished 13-1, 10-3, 10-3 with an SEC championship and a National Championship game appearance, all in the roughest division of the best conference in football. Is that not excellent? We are going to have a rebuilding year every now and then, all teams do. We are in one this season and our two losses were against the current #2 and #3 teams in the nation. Things have not been as bad as you imagine. This team has a big upside and the future looks bright. The coach is doing his job.
Great post, Red. I couldn't agree more. We're not very good this year. It sucks. No one likes losing. But Miles has done a remarkable job of keeping LSU near the top of the heap in the SEC for 7 of his 10 years he's been our coach. He recruits with the best of them, graduates players, runs a pretty clean program, and sends more players to the NFL than almost anyone else, and his players love him. I'm going to hang in there. Temper my expectations for the rest of the season, and look for improvement and player development. I think we'll be alright.
Who are you trying to kid, you wrote that and you know it. Sounds just like damn near every post you make here. There is no reason for you to shy away from your loyalty now. I think the Crewe piece was spot on btw.
I like Mullen and Saban but they aren't without their faults. I can admit that Miles has accomplished a lot and done quite well during his time here; can you acknowledge that he has flaws? I'm not hoping for LSU to lose and I'm not holding my breath till Miles is fired. I'll agree finding the next great coach is a crap shoot so what is best for LSU is for Miles and company to right the ship. But one of the biggest issues has barely been right his entire time at LSU and I am concerned about his ability to right it now. That's QB play. Tell me where we are now is not a failure of the coaches and unless you have good reasoning I'll say you need to take a step back from the koolaid. This negatiger tries hard to be intellectually honest; what about you, pumper? RE Florida, yeah it's kinda optimistic to pick LSU. But I'm going with the whole turmoil thing on FL side, and I have little respect for their coach.
A Negatiger will lose money at the casino and say, "That's enough, I need to quit gambling or find a new strategy." A sunshine pumper will lose his money at the casino and tell himself that everything is all right and its due to turn around because he won one time last year. Then he will throw the rest of his money on the table or the slots or the wheel.
Yeah, the BCSCG that had LSU the but of many jokes. Followed by two consecutive seasons of underachieving. I give you the future looks bright. I get we lost to two excellent teams but it's now we lost. NOT the losses. There is no excuse nor reason for LSU to come out flat in both games. That is now 4 of the six games this season that LSU came out flat. Had LSU come to play early on I think we beat Miss St. Auburn was on the road which makes it more difficult, I get that. Still, there is no excuse for a team with this much talent to get beat down jailhouse style. If the coach was doing his job we would see improvements by now. If the coach was doing his job we would not see some clock management error in nearly every single game. As I mentioned Miles has done a wonderful job and yes he is still winning at a solid clip. You still have to question where things are currently headed. You also have to question a team with so much NFL talent that is not looking as impressive as LSU has.
I'll spot him the first half of this year, but if there is little or no improvement the rest of this year and next year is just more of the same, then, I think it will be time to show Les the door. The biggest complaint I have is that this team has not improved in any area since the Whiskey game. That's on the coaching staff (unless our player just aren't very good).
