He should hire a "Clock Management Coodinator" to be aware of all situations where clock management is needed and to tell Les before he bungles it. It wouldn't even have to be a highly paid coach. A knowledgeable fan could do it.
Miles shouldn't even be allowed to wear a watch. He should be totally excluded from all clock management decisions.
You're right, chances are against finding a new coach who will produce a comparable winning percentage to CLM's tenure at LSU. The question is, have we seen the best of CLM? As a fan, hope springs eternal and I sure hope that the best is yet to come not only from CLM, but also from whoever and whenever we have a new HC. Back to this season --- Sometimes, little things can add up to big changes, and despite the two recent beat-downs, maybe LSU will make giant strides before the season ends. What ever one's feelings are towards CLM, if you're an LSU fan, you've got to want this season to get better. Otherwise, I don't want to think about that possibility! Sooner or latter, we're going to have a new coach, and I'd rather it be with CLM retiring as a winner.
Good Read Bengal. I think that is spot on analysis. I do love Les as our coach, but I am not afraid to say when he is stinking it up and right now he smells like $hit. I do give him credit for some of his decisions, but as of late he just does not seem like the cocky SOB we all liked during the beginning of his tenure. I think the ass rape he got on TV in 2011 just took something out of him.
Coaches always make a big deal out of rebounding from adversity after a loss, uh, finishing second. If that took something out of it he needs to suck it up and look for his lost mojo. Despite the boo boos he has made from the beginning Les did put an exciting brand of football on the field from 2005-2007 and in 2010-2011
We've had some great players come through LSU during Les' tenure, and had some damn strong performances. I'll give the man his due - some praise and some bitchin. Bitchin a lot now because the wounds are fresh.
I agree that the original was awfully skewed, but so was the rebuttal. It's like freaking politics in the US. Miles deserves credit and criticism, if you can admit that then you've made my day. I'm in the analyze and criticize to death camp; you're in the have faith and enjoy the ride camp. Or something like that.
I'm one of those who declared jihad on Miles almost immediately, but not before he coached a game. I think most folks were actually impressed because he landed perilloux. But the product I saw on the field concerned me - yes, despite victory usually. I grumbled until the NC year, when he kind of won me over. Since the NC loss to Bama, though, all my initial doubts are coming back. I understand he's had success and wouldn't push to have him fired even if he lost out this year. But what if it happened again next year? At what point would you be ready to part ways? Were you defending Hallman and Archer? I've picked LSU to win this weekend, and I'm hopeful our young QBs grow up quickly. I'm hopeful the part of me that was won over by Miles is right and the part that doubts him is wrong.
Miles is not unlike most other coaches. He has his style and he holds that style. Coaches are like that. That is why they get hired and also get fired. He is going to run the football 67% of the time. That is statistical knowledge. He likes a running QB to give him more running opportunities. The pass protects the run. Not the other way around. He wants to play defense with a strong DL and man to man cornerbacks. Also, often with success, he is not afraid to show his ass on 4th down. He asks no one man to be the difference maker. Rather, he spreads the responsibility out across the board. It works when the talent and experience are at a high level. Unlike the read option offense, which requires the QB to be the star of the team to be successful, his style allows for some consistency in play from year to year. That is why he is known as a 10 win a year coach. I agree with the original article that this program is depleted of talent with experience right now. It is hard to imagine that success breeds failure. LSU has become a 3 year program as of late which means LSU has lost its experience. With so many freshman playing, LSU has a 2 year window before they are a glorified high school team again. Miles style does not fit a young and inexperienced team. Perhaps no style fits that.
