I just went out for my daily lunch walk in the Old Market in downtown Omaha, and you can just feel the fever of baseball. It's a nice feeling to trade "GEAUX TIGERS!!" with a carload of Tiger fans in downtown Omaha. The 'blatt is gonna be rockin' on Sunday night...it's coming!!!!!! BTW...when I was leaving work, I drove by the Embassy Suites in dowtown Omaha, and to my surprise...the Georgia Bulldawg baseball team was getting of the bus. Had to give them my best "Tiger Bait!!!" Is it Sunday yet?

Yes it is. I just wish it got more national coverage leading up to the games, so the rest of us could get the excitement that is building up there in Omaha.

That's no lie. I wish we had more coverage. It is a wonderful time of year...and one day I am just gonna have to make the trip to Omaha so I can partake of it. I bet it is unbelievable.

Only slightly off-subject, but ESPN yesterday ran a series of articles talking about the way they standardized the start date for the season to late February to help out the Northern teams.

I think anything we can do to make the game less regionalized would be great for the sport and increase the likelihood of national adoption and coverage of the sport. Think about it. In the pros, the NFL is king, but baseball is right there with the NBA for #2. However, in college, football is definitely on top, but basketball is light-years ahead of baseball in popularity. Why such the disparity between the sports on the two levels? It's almost primarily because of the regional nature of the sport.

As far as how this affects LSU, looks like we have the right head coach to handle the change in policy. Coach Mainieri knows what it takes to run a program under that kind of schedule because he did it at Notre Dame. He supports the new rules and seems as though he'd support further changes to level the field, such as delaying the season further.

Uniform start date keeps warm-weather teams on ice

    Thoughts?

Either I am losing my mind...or my post seems different than the one I actually wrote???? Are there "ghost writers" or "editors" that I am not aware of too?

Boy, I am learning a lot about censorship these days. I wonder if this post remains "in tact". Or maybe the powers that be are saying that I need some "tact".
