We know from '07 that Ga. is a bunch of criers, so I wouldn't expect anything different this time. (Remember we leaped them to gain a spot in the BCS NC game. They cried foul, even though they didn't even win their own division to reach the SECCG.)
Ok, haven't really read this thread so it might have been mentioned already but really, its excessive celebration karma...
I couldnt agree with you more. When Green caught the TD pass he went and celebrated with his team. and when "Chuck the Truck" scored he thanked the lord or the LSU fans and then went and celebrated with his team. Neither player taunted the opposing team are had a celebration dance. That was crazy, the refs need to be fined for that Bring on the Gators:tigereye:
So they are supposed to be robots with no emotions at all? They play the game to have fun, thats first. I dont want them to completely show their asses, but to point up to the sky and get called for a penalty is ridiculous and I believe you know just as well as I do.
It's a dumb penalty, but I do not see any problem with all players being taught to toss the ball to the nearest ref (or drop it into the end-zone), and then jog/sprint to the team on the sideline to celebrate, while the special teams handles the extra point.
Stupid penalty, stupid rule, but it went both ways, and didn't cost UGA the game, if they really wanted to win it they would have scored in the first 3 quarters, stopped Charles Scott in the 2nd half etc etc. Georgia lost because they were not the better team.
I ran across these 2 on FoxSports, & this thing has been bothering me as to why they called both these penalties, especially when the Georgia qb was "flying" around the field with his hands in the air after he completed the pass (looked like an old Bobby Hebert clip) and didn't get a flag thrown. Yes, it is a stupid call on both sides. But, if the guy in the post below is right and Green did point to himself AND Scott pointed to himself before he raised his hands in praise....are those 2 actions the reason they called the 2 bogus penalties? So, the refs saw this as "calling attention to himself"? And, they also apparently referenced it as "inciting the crowd".... if so, they sure better clarify the rule and fast because every other game on last weekend had the same if not worse celebrating with no penalties! Thoughts? Report Abuse tigerbrad 10/5/2009 1:32:31 AM Football Fans: The celebration flag on the Georgia player #8 Green was because he brought his left fist to his right shoulder. If you replay the moments after the touch down in slow motion it is there. The rule for celebration is that a player can not bring attention to himself after a score and he certainly did just that. The refs followed the rule and he violated the rule. Number 32, Scott also violated the rule and received a flag. Great game, good luck Georgia Bulldogs for the rest of the year. May be they will meet again in the SEC East and West game, stranger things have happened. 2. Apparently, this SEC officiating crew didn't get the memo after an absurd celebration penalty was called against Jake Locker last year, following his late touchdown in the Washington-BYU game. If a player is celebrating with his teammates or not taunting the opposition, let it go. This isn't 1984, or at least, it's not supposed to be. Players shouldn't be enmeshed in an Orwellian novel. They should be able to have a little fun on the field. What a concept, right? Why do we keep having to revisit the same abject failures on the part of officiating crews? Football is a game of emotion. The sport requires a considerable amount of intensity. Fans have been known to create a juiced-up game day atmosphere. Fourth-quarter pressure raises the temperature inside a stadium. And officials are acting the part of the thought police? Unacceptable, intolerable and inexcusable. — Matt Zemek
