are being rescued so they may be killed? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2986955 RICHMOND, Va. -- More than 50 pit bulls seized from Michael Vick's property face a Thursday deadline to be claimed. If no one comes forward, they could be euthanized.
Who would want to adopt dogs that have been trained to fight? You volunteering for the job?:yelwink2:
You have no choice, these dogs have been trained to attack and kill other dogs. My neighbor had a pit bull that killed my beagle. they had to put it to sleep, of course I told my neigbor if the authorities didnt do it I was going to put the dog to sleep myself with a 40cal shot to the head. But these dogs if neglected and trained to kill will do just that. Sad but i would rather see them humanly put to sleep peacefully, then have them die a violent death with a bunch of gang members cheering it on.
so sad to hear about your beagle. i agree with them euthanized humanely than shredded in a fight is the lesser of two evils. if a dog can be rehabilitated at all (as discussed in another thread) there are very few choices in the type of home it goes to. no other dogs or children is a given. and unfortunately as has been pointed out, few of them can be rehabilitated. it is a sad situation because the dogs are victims of this digusting "sport". i am starting to think the dogs should get the first shot at revenge against the low-life scum that put them in this situation.
I sometimes watch (and I have no idea why I do because it's the most depressing stuff you'll ever see) Animal Rescue. They feature SPCA workers in major cities. I saw one where they resued several dogs, cleaned them up, got them healthy and then they do one last test to see if they are adoptable. They feed them and use a long pole with a rubber hand to see how the dogs would react to someone being close to their food. They have to put them down if the dog shows any form of aggression. The same would have to apply for dogs trained to fight.
if i was a dog i would rather go down fighting. but who knows what a dog is thinkin. for all i know a pit bull has it in his genes to want to kil and fight until he dies.
I inherited 3 of these dogs after Katrina. I have never wanted a Pit. Never even thought of a dog like that. I have Collies at home, great kid dogs. At one of the plants I have the Bulldog. The dominant male killed the other 2. One of the most vicious animals I have ever seen. He is way smarter than the 2 he thumped off. They were typical pits, but this one is not. He just don't like strangers to make eye contact with him and he's fine.
Not surprised at all. My wife, who did lots of volunteer work at the Animal Rescue League of Boston when we were living there (and also does dog training as a side hobby/job) says that ALL dogs with fighting experience are put down--no questions asked. Their whole lives, they have been programed to be one thing, and one thing only: aggressive. NO WAY IN HELL would a not-for-profit animal organization run the risk of being sued because they allowed a pit bull to go to a family and then have it attack someone--or someone else's dog.
To me it is so sad to have an animal put to sleep, but I think that this is probably the best thing that could happen to them.
