McCarron is relaxed, having fun, playing with Confidence.

Mett seems tense, frustrated, and timid.

I hope the kid can losen up and have some fun out there. I think it would have a profound inpact on the play of the entire offense.

There are a lot of differences between them, the most important of them probably being experience.

Yeah .. I agree ... but you have to admit ... people make mistakes when they get tense. I think Mett has the abilities to be a really good QB. I think his "mental" state is behind a lot of the mistakes we are seeing. The pocket awareness, the off passes, the holding on the ball too long, ... I think it is because he is playing inside the tunnel he's created in his mind.

The kid is going to have to losen up and play his game. You can't do well when your mind is consumed with worries about what everyone thinks, mechanics, etc ... you have to losen up and play.

No doubt. But the next two weeks he will be thinking about Alabama. I'm not sure how much loosening he will do with that pressure hanging over him.

Somebody said it very well in another thread, and it's very true: Mett is really just a regular RS freshman SEC QB, on a fairly young team, right now.

Mett's in-game experience is nowhere close to other starting SEC QBs who started last year.

Coach Kragthorpe has to be trusted that he can get Mett to improve, even if we don't see the fruits of his success until next season.

IMHO, we cannot DEMAND that Mett becomes an outstanding QB this season. That would be unreasonable. I hope to see marked improvement in Mett's leadership and QB ability by the time we play our bowl game.

I can't believe how many open throws he missed yesterday. I know the coaches get blamed a lot and everyone likes to make hyperbolic statements like "No QB will ever succeed under Miles!~!!!!" but the guy has good form, lines up, and throws the ball 5 yards off target. I'm officially worried.

One has one- if not THE- best O lines in college football; which affects all the intangibles you're saying. At least that's my opinion.

Accuracy: one of these QBs has it.

That's the point. There is no point in "pressure" being on him at all. You work on things in practice, .. that's the time you spend focusing on improving things ... develope the "instincts". Come game time ..you have to go out and play, and let it land where it lands, and hope some of that practice stuck.

I remember when I used to play pool. In any comfortable game, I usually won, ran the table most of the time. But if I ever got tense, focused to hard, etc ... I'd start missing. It wasn't that I couldn't run the table and win .. it's just that my mind sabotaged my game.

Mett has a lot of support behind him. He has a great defense, so he has to realize he can afford a mistake or two. He's got some great running backs .. and the O-line, young as they are, are getting better and better. He has some good WR's .. granted they aren't great, but he needs to convey the message to them that they CAN catch any ball thrown to them .. and that he has confidence in them that they will.

I remember last year, the biggest difference between Lee and Jefferson .. WR dropped the pass, Lee was clapping his hands, slapping butts ... supporting his guys. Jefferson had that "look" ... like the one he gave Spencer Ware when JJ tossed it at his back .. like "it's your fault I look so bad".

We as fans need to be the same. So what if we don't win the NCG .. or even the SEC West. Sure .. we all want to win, but the real point is just to support your team and enjoy the game. Think of some of the teams like Kentucky .. who are always on the bottom .. yet, their fans show up every Saturday .. to root and cheer .. and hopefully be suprised that they even make a score.

I think we, the media, and everyone else has just become too critical. We're putting too much pressure on these guys ... as if we are paying them or something.

Mettenberger looked more relaxed at the end of the Florida game. I really believe the coaches are affecting the psyche of our QBs, and at the end of said game, the coaches took the reigns off because it was the only way to win.
