I think he is getting his confidence up after that bad game, he had one bad throw last night and without the drops his stats are better than what it is now. He made some decent throws last night, when they let him throw it.
I think he will be fine as the season goes on or I hope he will be fine.

I watched the game again this morning and they let him throw deep in the fourth quarter, a ball that Shepard could have caught even though Tolliver appeared to be more open. It was really close to being a great play and should give him confidence going forward. They did go for a quick strike TD pass that he over threw to Tolliver that could have been caught as well. I am much happier than last week's performance. The game dictated the play calling and the results were good. Next week will be interesting.

I saw absolutely nothing last night that indicated JJ's confidence had improved. He was more accurate in the throws he did take. But that freshman from Miss St had 10 times more confidence than JJ did. I wonder what that kid would look like with 16 starts under his belt. He was either alert enough or allowed to call an 'audible' too.

    We won big though.

his confidence is improving, but it ain't where it needs to be yet.

on his TD run, he showed more heart than i've ever seen from him.
on some of his scrambles, i saw him with his head up and looking down field for a receiver instead of just a lane to run. This is something we haven't seen from him yet.

Side note that's not too far off topic: Listening to CLM talk about the QB situation is beginning to remind me of Jim Haslett defending his decisions for not pulling Brooks in favor of Delhomme. He admitted about a year ago that he knew Brooks was hurt that season, but stayed with him because he didn't want it to look like he was caving in to the fans. I wonder if thoughts like that go through :miles:'s mind?

the problem with the ultra conservative playcalling is that jj cannot establish any continuity.

last night it was amazing to see the field open up in the 3rd qtr when we went a wee bit vertical.

I perfectly agree with you. Unfortunately, the coaches are trying to continue to build up his confidence for his subpar passing game, and JJ is still "hogging" playtime in trying to improve, therefore depriving Lee of any meaningful playtime for improvement. JJ can help the offense with his running to offset the low pass production. Like someone mentioned earlier, it is a catch 22 situation.

I really hope they start mixing Lee in, at least like MF and Perilleaux, to juggle things up and help Lee improve as well as giving the offense a better dimension. I believe it is UNWISE to put all the eggs in one basket at this early part of the season before the real SEC schedule kicks in.

"So the problem we face is we need to instill confidence in JJ and open up the playbook. The problem is his inconsistent and often times poor play doesn't give the coaching staff the confidence to do just that. So it's catch-22."

I rarely post that much about the games. Mainly because I do not want to say anything "negative" about the players or the staff. I know this staff and players have worked their tails off to get better this season, and that they truly want to win more than any of us fans.
For the last two years fans have blamed Miles and/or Crowton for the playcalling or the inability to coach up players. Others blame the players for the inability to "mature" and execute the offense. While, some see the combination of both-see quote.
I was really down on JJ after the Vandy game last week, as many were. But, I thought he come out w/a different attitude this game. I know his stats weren't great, but I thought he played a lot better. IMO he was handcuffed by the playcalling. The coaching staff, however, accomplished what they were trying to do, which was to sustain drives (outside of punching it into the endzone).
By handcuffed I mean: MS State opens the 3rd with a td drive to make the game 12-7. With no room to be conservative anymore, LSU has to respond. The playcalling seems to open up with a little creativity and JJ made some nice passes, not to mention the great td run he had. BOOM, that drive showed what this team is capable of, yet it is now 19-7. Back to conservative playcalling.
I'm just tired of lining up on Offense, and telling the defense, "This what we're running, stop us if you can!!" I want to see that 3rd quarter drive where we say, "You have no idea what's coming, nor do you have any chance at stopping us!!"

That means the coaches better continue to open up the play book the next game; not much time left to continue on babying JJ.
