    Beat me to it.

Great article and I like how Chavis handles himself.

"I think he (Dooley) will do well,'' Chavis said. "When you see teams compete like (Louisiana Tech), that tells you there's something good going on at the top.''

Pretty much took the words out of my mouth. I know a lot of Florida fans are laughing now, but they ain't gonna be laughing a few years down the road.

I hope we continue to see the defense improve because I admire Chavis' loyalty to the LSU program.:thumb:

Well, he did almost double his salary to in the process of that loyalty. Just stating the facts. I am glad he is here, and not the two headed monster, but still the loyalty being referred to did come with a significant cost, and how that cost played into the inability to turnover our OC - who knows?

True. I failed to remember the raise. However, from the article as a whole, it does sound like loyalty is important to him. But a bit extra scratch never hurts in keeping one loyal.

IMO, Chavis' raise had no impact on the decision whether or not to keep Crowton. I think that because Miles pushed for Crowton to receive a raise last year, that he had to accept the consequences of that decision. He pushed for it, now he is paying for that mistake.

wow... what a back-handed compliment... :hihi:

paradiseinc, i was just talking about chavis' raise and LSU's holding on to crowton the other day... i think there may be something to it. it's not the entire reason, but i bet it played a role. i think that it was just collectively a bad turn of events... you had the mccarthy debacle, young QB, bad o-line, budget cuts, miles lobbying for a raise for crowton, etc. just too much going on to get rid of GC... perhaps there were a lot of distractions, ego problems on the staff, who knows? but next season may be something entirely different.

and what if crowton's offense looks like it did in 2007 and 2008? personally, i wanted to get rid of crowton because i like wide-open offenses like TT had under mike leach. and face it, that is what's popular right now -- that wide-open "playstation/madden" style because that is what kids are growing up with these days. it was an article in "Wired" magazine and was really interesting.

I like the Chavis remarks. There is a business side to his decision, hence a raise that I think he earned. There is a personal side to his decision, and if Les was a jerk, John Chavis would be at Ga. right now. He would not work for a jerk for 50K per year more (I say that because I wouldn't, I really don't know Chavis, but it's my opinion).

Chavis choosing to remain at LSU says a lot, about what kind of talent he thinks is coming up, and what kind of a guy he thinks Les is to work for. That would be positive on both counts, IMO.

His decision also seems to fit with his basic modus operandi. He was at Tenn. for 15 years, he obviously does not pine to be a head coach, nor is he aggressive in pushing his career.

He seems to enjoy coaching the defense, and that's just what we need, somebody who is good at that and isn't just waiting to get a head coach opportunity (stepping stone) ala Bo Pelini (but I thank Pelini for 3 great seasons!).

However I look at it, this looks good for LSU.

Edit: I posted without reading the article, just the little bit in the original post. I read the whole article, and I am impressed with the Chief even more. He sounds like a man who cares about loyalty and his players. I really like what I see; he looks like a great hire for LSU!
