The making it reviewable is my only point. When it happened it was so fast I didn't know what happened other than it was a huge hit. I didn't realize that he led with his shoulder until I saw a couple of the slow mo replays. Unless it's an obvious spear like ULL it's just too fast to make an accurate call in real time. Also glad neither of them were really hurt.
Not true. The Hogs still scored on that drive. In fact, if they'd scored on that play, we would have had MORE time to drive the field and score a TD for the win in regulation. And without the penalty, they may have taken even more time off the clock before scoring, to prevent us from driving to tie. I still disagree with the penalty based on all the same arguments that have been made, but the penalty may have actually helped us in that situation. The football definitely bounces different ways, and EVERY play in a game can affect the outcome - whether it is what you expected or not. :LSU231:
You make a great point and I'll give you that it might have been a different crew and it is a really good point that some refs are give more leeway. My problem is a holding (for the great majority of the time) isn't at risk to seriously hurt a player. The hit on TT was different like some one else said on here the La Tech guy torpedoed himself at TT that was malicious. On the flip side this is football not freaking ballet. As I said before you shouldn't be able to call one call and not the other. They were both monster hits and I wish everyone on our team lit players up like Jones did, just go lower and not the helment. :tigerhead
Agreed. However, there was some really sloppy tackling against Arky overall. Lots of yards after contact from guys trying to make a vicious hit and not wrapping up with their ams like they're taught. Hopefully we'll get some coaching done to teach them tackling discipline. I love the energy and timing of CJ's hit, everything except the helmet hit that cost us a penalty.
What sucked about the call is that none of the officials that were close to the play had a problem, and none of them reached in their pockets. The Line Judge got an earful from the Arky coaches and ran 30 yards down the field to throw the flag. The Back Judge right on top of the play didn't have a problem with it. I sit in the NEZ between the goal posts, and the official that threw the flag should be fired for letting the bench make the call. The still frame above shows that it was all shoulder and that the Line Judge had NO business making that call. Another fine example of the best officials in the country. NOT.
