I think he led with his shoulder and some helmet contact after the initial impact. Thats already been said, but without that play we lose. Chad Jones played a hell of a game. I think they would have had to take me home after a hit like that.
I edited "The Hit" that Chad Jones put on Joe Adams. It's posted on Youtube in HQ. Hope you guys enjoy watching it. Glad no one was hurt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd-ZXDDSKOg
Here's the hit. I did a slight edit with music and posted it on youtube: YouTube - LSU vs Arkansas '09 - Chad Jones HITS Joe Adams HARD [HQ].mov
Helmets did hit, but he led with his shoulder. For anyone who says that the CJ3 hit was worse than the hit Tolliver took, you are smoking crack. The Tech guy torpedoed himself headfirst at Tolliver, CJ3 did not, when you watch the hit you can see Chad's arm continue in motion after the Arkansas player was on the ground, which means he led with his shoulder. Bad call, you can't even play football anymore.
What's more amazing is that CJ is willing to make these hits. That is one valuable pitching shoulder he used.
The helmet-to-helmet and the horse collar are new rules this year... and the intent is good. Given the speed of the game, they should have also made these calls reviewable... especially given they were new rules.
ever been in a bad car accident? i have. my head touched nothing, but i think i felt just like cj. if your body is going 30 mph and stops on a dime, your brain will crash on the inside of your skull regardless of whether your head hit anything.
He clearly led with his shoulder. He purposefully turned his body to AVOID leading with the head and hit him first with his shoulder. The officials blew it. The side of your helmet can hit their helmet if you lead with your shoulder and the helmets meet after the initial contact of the shoulder. He did not initiate contact with his helmet nor did he target him with the crown of his helmet. He did not break the rule. That bad call by the refs could have cost us the game. It would have been 3rd and 10 and they would have been demoralized. I think we would have stopped them and won in regulation. I think the officiating crew should be reprimanded for not huddling up and getting the call right.
