Jesus Christ. Y'all were yelling for him to start the kid. He did. Now he "set him up"? No matter what, CLM will never do anything right for some of you.
i wish our coaches would let our inexperienced qb's throw more against the lesser teams. then the thought of throwing against college defenses, in the front of large crowds, would not be new to them during the games we need them to throw in.
I agree w/your assertions to not even go after/recruit dual threat QBs if you plan to run the offense we run year after year. I have been saying the same thing for a while. Having said that, these 2 current QBs were both graded as top passing QBs. Jennings was the top QB in the Elite 12, or whatever it is called. Harris, too, was one of the elite QBs from the Nike camp, I believe, and was rated by the "QB guru" George Whitfield" as one of the best arms he has seen. So, maybe CLM gave parameters in recruiting, with a focus on being a passer more than a runner? Maybe we are labeling them as "dual threat" when, in reality, they are considered "passing" QBs by the coaching staff? I dunno. I will say when we drop back, i.e. don't just hand off to the RB, there doesn't seem to be many set plays that are designed QB runs. And, the current QB recruits seem to fit more that "pro-style" mold, I believe. To me, Jennings is just struggling on the big stage to find open receivers, but he can throw the ball. Harris' arm almost seems "too strong" sometimes, esp. when his nerves got the best of him against AU, and he overthrew so many WRs.
Saw that, too. I meant to post that during the game when so many, esp. Iststl, were calling CLM a "dumb ass". Like he planned that. "Hey guys, were in a timeout, so why don't we run an extra guy on the field and see if anyone notices?"
http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Anthony-Jennings-125954 https://rivals.yahoo.com/Alabama/football/recruiting/player-Brandon-Harris-147043 Rivals has Jennings and Harris both classified as dual threat quarterbacks, but I get what you were saying. Both of them were able to really throw the ball well in High School and Harris' arm is out of this world.
Did you not watch the cupcake games? We threw it a lot more against those teams. It hasn't translated, yet, to making us very good at passing against SEC defenses. Frankly, I was happy we were finally able to run against one, though.
If we all here agree this is "a rebuilding year" then why not let us really plan for the future. Let the QBs make mistakes throwing. Be that Harris or Jennings. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying here I think the approach for this game was what we needed to do. I am all about feeding the hot hand. I am going back to the war chicken game, if the run ain't cutting it we might as well try to throw the ball. If the game is a write off I would rather plan for the future and get some MEANINGFUL reps in to develop these kids. Lord knows they will have to grow up fast in this conference much less this division.
The flop did'nt get the penalty....it was the shove to the facemask that drew the penalty.....the flop was just added bonus. lol
