Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor you have to be able to do both. yes he needs to be able to coach the hot shots, but if hot shots are injured and you are down to your 3rd string qb, you need to be able to take that and use it to the best that it can be. you have to find the strenghts that those kids have and utilize them, even if it isnt all that you originally had an offense formed around. you have to take the kids with raw talent, waiting to be developed, and develop it, no matter what level of talent it is. if i remember right (and memory, or even thinking, is not my strong suit right now so bear with me) it has been alleged that crowton does best at each stop with qbs that have already been developed. but then when it gets into young green qbs the development those players need just doesnt happen, and production goes downhill from there. i am wondering if that is what we are seeing? is he not developing players? is he not taking the kids that are not as talented and playing to their strengths in ways that minimize their weaknesses? i dont know.
Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor Yep, after Matt spent three years being developed by Jimbo. Miles didn't win with Saban's players; Crowton won with Jimbo's players.
If the offense improves next year it will be because we hired Gonzalez. If they still stink it up it's becuase we didn't fire Crowton. That's what the threads will say anyway.
Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor This is the most intelligent thing I have heard all year. I'm kind of mad I didn't say it. I think it might have been four years though. Wasn't he redshirted. Whatever, brilliant, because only the Seniors were recruited by Saban. :geaux:
Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor Not quite. A good coach can coach up anyone with a requisite level of talent, ability, and drive.
Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor ANYONE. A good coach could coach YOU up. I'm not saying you'd ever be good enough to play college football, but that coach could make you better and smarter than you are about the game, not worse or the same.
Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor This is only partly true. A person either is or is NOT an athlete; a coach can't make an athlete out of someone who isn't athletic. When talking in terms of college athletes, there are elite ones and non-elite ones. LSU should have elite athletes, so they should be able to be coached. But individual determination starts to feed in there.
Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor this is all fine and good I hope BG fixes it but my only problem with this is... We have an OC and head coach who cant do this? Cant get plays in on time? cant convince players to avoid penalties? Cant co ordinate an offense? wait.... offense cordination? OC... head coach.? Miles has lots of experience with offense.. and so does GC, what is missing here?
Re: The Billy Gonzales Factor GC didnt develop Flynn, Flynn was pre developed for him, by Jimbo. fact is GC hasnt developed a single QB at LSU, and the talent isnt lacking. Flynn was recruited at about the same level as Lee. talent is a wash. maturity ( experience ) might be a bit short... I'd concede that... but do you remember Matt Flynn's first REAL start? it was Pre-Crowton and everyone was worried about his experience. shoulda played him all year in 06.
