The Billy Gonzales Factor I haven't really seen this discussed since the bowl game, so I thought I would bring it up. Once again, I allowed myself to develop false expectations, after reading an interview with Crowton, talking about building a more simple gameplan, and showcasing specific playmakers. Whatever he did, his inability to call a productive gameplan was illustrated quickly. As a self proclaimed sunshine pumper, I will be the first to say I want Crowton gone. I was hoping that Billy Gonzalez might have influenced a smoother more innovative gameplan, but alas that was not the case. Questions and thoughts I have: Do you think he was not able to be involved long enough to truly effect the gameplan? Do you think if Crowton is retained :sob: that Billy will play a strong role in the offseason retooling the offense? (this is the only thing I can to cling to for sanity if GC stays) I still find it hard to believe that BG was not hired without the promise of something more, I don't see why a title change would be enough to leave a coach you have been with for nine years (yes I know he was snubbed last year). I guess there is a part of me that is hopeful that maybe he will be handed the reins sooner, not later. I firmly believe that GC is the major reason this program is not performing at a higher level. I really like Les, I hope that he is smart enough to cut GC now, or at worst next year to save his job (a la Richt with Martinez). What are everyone else's thoughts? :geauxtige
no. (i dont think he has been here long enough.) i think that he was just beginning to work on some basics that for whatever reason werent being addressed. didnt i read something somewhere on his addressing things such as footwork? if so, it sounds like he is starting from the ground up on working with receivers. i dont think he got anywhere near sniffing game planning.
Agreed. It also would have been to have the intelligence to not run out of the shotgun frequently, or to try the option.
Actually, hiring Billy Gonzalez seems to make it even less likely now that GC will be fired, since this was an assistant he lobbied for big time and wanted on staff since 2007. Remember, he came to Florida from Utah, so they have a history together. The only hope I have here is maybe, just maybe, he will be the missing piece to get JJ and our other QBs on the same page as our receivers and tight ends in Crowton's system.
:geaux: Actually, I'd be happy if he (Gonzalez) could just convince someone, anyone, to please get Russel Sheppard in the game somehow! After watching the highlights of McCluster running out of the Wild Rebel today it really made me sick that Sheppard didn't get much of a chance this year, IMO. :LSU231:
Sloppy field like that pretty much negates any kind of timing routes you want to run.. the team with the better run game is going to win that game 9/10 times. I do like how LSU is a pass first team. I think football is a passing game now.. and that passing to set up the run is far more effective than running to set up the pass. I think Gonzo will do wonders with our passing game if TT stays.
Yeah.. he can definitely improve his stock if he stays. But that's up to him.. sometimes money is an issue.
