I don't understand Red's defense of Lee. JJ is head and shoulders above him. JJ looked like a polished SEC QB last night, except for the option which should be removed from the playbook.
Neither QB is going to be constantly successful with that OC. Jefferson has enough skill to get you to 7-10 wins a year if you keep the talent around him as high as top 5 in the nation (even with the OC not having a clue as to what he is doing). He probably does not have the skills to make the necessary plays in all the big games, which will probably result in a number of big game loses. IMHO Lee has the arm, whether or not he can constantly keep it out of the defenses hands is an unknown. Alabama clearly pulled back on the 8-9 in the box when Lee was in there which allowed the huge wholes to appear. IMHO your choices is either keep it safe but no improvement with Jefferson, or try to improve and give to Lee which might cost you if he starts getting picks.
I guess I was watching a different game. The receivers saw the ball yesterday alot and that touchdown Jefferson threw was beautiful, the ball was out of his hands before Peterson was out of his break on that curl route.
Unless the receiver is open by 20 yards, or its a WR screen JJ is not going to throw it... which is why you only had 7 points on the board in the 3rd quarter and absolutely no offense what so ever. There are only so many WR screens you can call with 8-9 in the box and corners playing up on the WRs. Ain't going to work. I would do exactly what the defenses have been doing... put 8-9 in the box.... unless LSU can out talent you somewhere else you have a very good shot at winning. By the 3rd quarter the offense was a mess, they actually had a spark when Lee got in there because Alabama took the 8th and 9th guy out of the box, and for good reason. The last play he had one of two choices.... take the sack on 4th or throw it... he plays to win so he threw it... the game was way over before that though.
He did do a good job yesterday. My comment was on his season. He's not responsible for all of LSU's issues, clearly. But he is responsible for the LSU passing game which is lousy and allows opponents to stack the box against our running backs. I wasn't calling for Lee, either. I was calling for Jefferson to get himself into the top tier of SEC QB's and take advantage of having the best WR tandem in the SEC. Jefferson must improve his passing in the remaining games or Les may have to find another quarterback next year if we are going to compete nationally.
Some people just cant be honest, when every one saw who was the better QB last night. Habitual deniers and liars. Not directed at Red.
The last 2 weeks including this game, Jefferson has improved alot, if you cant admit that, then I dont know what to say. He is not solely responsible for the passing game with the well documented struggles with our offensive line. To say he hasnt improved and that Les Miles will have to find another QB next year is a pretty wild statement to me. He is just a sophomore. The same excuse people were using with Lee last year was his youth, whats different now?
I guess people can't admit that 7 points through 2 and half quarters SUCKS. It was probably the offensive line fault as always. Not directed at Red. It seems my prediction of Lee replacing Jefferson at QB either due to injury or performance was right on the mark, not a hard prediction to make but I think I remember someone saying it was hogwash.
