The irony is that Boise State has a much better chance of backing into playing for a NC this year, even though they had a much more legitimate reason last year.

That's a fairy tale. Boise State wants to play on its terms, and then cries to the media like a tattle tale that the other teams doesn't want to play them.

Fresno State was just as dangerous, and they played plenty of quality OOC games every season. And, they did beat plenty of good and tough OOC teams each season. When SC was on that unbeatable roll, only ND and Fresno State came close to beating SC. (Well, ND did beat SC except for that illegal push by Reggie Bush).

But, Fresno's tough schedule also exposed the weakness of these mid major teams- they might get up to beat a giant or two yet couldn't sustain it for a full season.
