The bold part above is why I defended Miles for years and years. I thought LSU was a couple clicks away from making a real run at the title. Now, I think I've turned. Miles is set in his ways to the detriment of the team's success, the defense no longer masks the offense, and LSU is being blown out by the likes of Arkansas, MSU and Ole Miss. Also, Les is 62 years old. He's not changing his ways, and he's not going to coach that much longer anyway. His first eight years were phenomenal, and nobody can take that away from him. He is, and deserves to be, a LSU and SEC legend. He coached LSU better than Nick Saban, who is a greedy, mercenary scumbag. Anyone who says he "only won with Saban's players/foundation" is an idiot who should not be taken seriously. But it looks like it's time to part ways.
Rematches happen in every sport. Now that there is a playoff and especially when they expand it to 8 teams, there will be rematches. If you are a championship team, you win both games. It's that simple. In 2003, LSU beat Georgia twice. That's what they had to do to win the SEC and get into the BCS game. That was a championship caliber team with a championship mindset. Leading up to that game there was A LOT of sympathy for LSU having to beat Bama again. All that sympathy was out the door when LSU simply did not show up for the game. It was a failure at all levels. The fans have the right to feel anything they want, but it looked like to me that the LSU players thought it was unfair they had to play Bama again and that's 100% the fault of the coaches. That is a losers mentality. You should relish the opportunity to show the world that the 9-6 was, not only not a fluke, but that LSU is way better than Bama and they don't deserve to be here.
It's no harder for me to fathom the fact that Miles would do that just to prove a point, than the fact that some rich daddy warbucks millionaire(s) would drop 15-20 million to run off a coach just to prove a point because they're pissed off. People do strange shit sometimes.. lol
Yes, he did. That's one time in 11 years, and he hasn't done it since. As far as college coaches go, that's pretty impressive. I know that you have never liked Miles, and yes, he has some real deficiencies as a coach, but some are trying to suggest he did nothing well. Why, last night, on the TOS, someone said Miles is wanting Harris to hang is receivers out to dry and is actually coaching him to do so (to hurt receivers.) It's a feeding frenzy, for sure, but Miles was strong in a number of areas, and support of his players is one of his strongest areas.
I didn't say never, but I did say it was one of his endearing qualities. The "clock it" situation is the only time that I saw him throw a player under the bus. He hadn't done it before; he hasn't done it since.
Miles took the heat for his players more than any other during his tenure. Mostly, he was correct. It was often his fault. But he was an in-house guy. Always keep your shit behind closed doors. Family is family. In a world of zero character in people you deal with on a daily basis, I always respected that in Miles. Most everyone is a sellout in the end. Miles most always held strong. One of the many reasons his players have his back. Trust goes a long way with me because its a sure fire way to test someones character.
