If you want to know how big it is just ask but I can promise you it's WAY longer than yours is tight.
A worthwhile read on his thought process and decision making on why he stayed, the factors he considered and the advice he received. http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2016/01/tredavious_white_chooses_lsu_p.html
I respect his decision and his reasons but, this rarely works out. Most of the time the players cost themselves millions.
Question: Do schools provide free continuing education for athletes who get hurt or don't make it in pro sports?
On the surface it may seem he is giving up millions, but he's talking about longevity in the NFL, and life. By staying another year, he's hedging on being more mature physically and mentally, thus entering as an expected starter, and building immediate experience and expectations. His feeling is that is associated with more NFL longevity than entering as a 1st round pick but flaming out after that initial contract. If he flames out anyway, he's got his degree in hand. I get his rationale, and think it is worth the risk for that extra year under his belt. Degree + more NFL longevity w/better long term contract, both put him in better long term positioning, even though he is missing out on 1 year of dollars.
most likely hes costing himself 1 year of longevity in the nfl. and a risk of losing it all to injury. but hey im glad hes got a set of cajones.
