I'm just going by what ESPN announcer Bob Davies said but apparently W is not restricted by the 20 hour rule because they're not in class. It only applies when the students are in class. They're on the Quarter system and don't start class until Sept. 30. Likely why their Offense and Defense is so far ahead of ours. Davies quoted Locker as saying he feels like he's in the Pros.
There's some truth to the "they had more preparation than us" argument. Witness how well Utah prepared for Bama in the sugar bowl last season. But I guess I'm old school and don't want to hang my hat on excuses...especially ones that seem like a reach. And since when was the last time any network talking head actually come up with some true insight? next...........Vandy, you're up !!!
They have had all summer to prepare for UW. If your team has to use this excuse then your team isn't any good. What I liked in the game: 1.) The kids played hard, I can't say it was from a lack of effort 2.) Toliver looked real smooth 3.) Punt and kickoff coverage looked good 4.) Nevis looked good and Peterson is a great tackler What I didn't like about the game: 1.) Players on D were out of position, gave up way too many yards 2.) LSU was outcoached, UW usually had the right play called against LSU's defense and offense... the coaches for UW gave their players a chance to win. 3.) Jefferson gained virtually no experience in the pocket passing game 4.) When Jefferson did drop to pass a few times the OL didn't give good protection 5.) Good chance LSU will need a new punter
The last time a talking head came up with some true insight was probably Sat. nite. I don't think Bob Davies would have spent a couple of minutes talking about the 20 hour rule and the advantage it gave the Huskies if he didn't know what he was talking about. That and the fact that he is an ex head coach and probably knows pretty much what he's talking about. Maybe I'm making an excuse but facts are facts and I'm tired of reading about what bozos our coaches are (they're not), and what duds our players are (they're not) and how good W is (they're not, except for Locker and maybe the advantage applies to him as well). As far as the comment by LSU-SIU about having all summer to prepare and our team is no good, maybe you're right. The NCAA restricts the amount of time coaches can spend with the players during the off season but I'm not sure about all the rules, including the 20 hour rule and maybe we're no good and W is wonderful for losing to us and we're not a top 5 Pac 10 team, blah, blah, blah and BS. We'll see.
I wasn't really disagreeing with you that much. I was really making a comment about those talking heads latching on to one "insightful" thought and driving it into the ground. I thought it was nauseating that Davies(?) made so many comments about the two hour time zone change in case some of us didn't realize how cute and smart he was. And what about Lou Holtz predicting ND in the BCSCG? And what about how they murder the players names during the game. All those talking heads are interested in is glamorizing themselves. They remind me of that kid in high school who was known as the class clown. (I should know, that kid was me !! :hihi:.)
1) They weren't out of position the bulk of the time. There was a few ugly missed tackles though. 2) LSU had that 'vanilla' game plan matched against a very, very good plan. 3) Jefferson dropped back quite a bit from under center. Plenty of times he was on the run due to pressure or he got happy feet. 4) Above 5) Agreed.
the 20 hour rule i really havent given much thought to. not sure what i think about that. it may have been an advantage for wash, but it wasnt THE reason we struggled. as far as travel. im sure the kids were a bit tired, but its no excuse. and all i have to say about the 2 hours time difference.... wash is in the same time zone as pasadena.
