You can't even perceive them. It's denial and self-deception at its worse.

i certainly can, they just dont live in america.

i have mentioned this before, but i know lots of immigrants. all of queens is immigrants. many of my friends have parents from other poor countries. they always talk about how different it is in america. their parents came here iwth nothing, and lived packed into small apertments, earning little money, but still rich by old coluntry standards. then their children (my friends) who have started life in america, are basically never poor. but their parents never let them take it for granted what it means to live in america. its basically the difference between poverty and wealth.

alls i am saying is that i think it is silly to call americans poor, when we here never see, never really even really have any grasp of what real poverty is, what real hunger is. most of us have never seen a person that has gone more than a day or two without eating.

There are obviously people out there who need assistance. Food stamps, unemployment, housing and childcare assistance.

How do you differentiate between those folks, and the ones who absolutely do not deserve it.

Also unemployment. I have seen it alot, a guy loses his job, he was making 18 dollars an hour. This guy will refuse to take another job for less pay when he can draw unemployment for around the same amount by sitting on his ass. Something just isn't right about that. You lose your job, sometimes you gotta start from the ground up again, instead of depending on the taxpayer, and other companies to pay for you to sit on your ass.

What can be done to help those who really need it, and force the ones who abuse it, and who have made a career off of it to get to work and stop depending on the taxpayer?

This is the million dollar question. I think that vast majority of working people, regardless of political affiliation, would agree that they detest the abuse of those benefits. I know I do. On the other hand I had an Uncle who died about 12 years ago of Chrones Disease. Over the course of 23 years he had over 30 surgeries to combat the disease and it was impossible for him to hold a job so for these kind of people I think the vast majority would agree these benefits are vital.

How to best accomplish this, I don't know.

On the unemployment thing I think that the government should work with employers on a scenario where that worker who is making $600 a week sitting on their ass would take that job at mcdonald that only pays him $300 per week and the government would subsidize him for the other $300. Nothing motivates a person to keep looking for better work than having to take a job that they consider to be below them. this also saves the government a ton of money. maybe this isn't the end all answer but something along these lines makes more sense that giving a handout.

i am this ignorant. the best story you could come up with about a poor person was a person whose you helped pay the rent for. a person who is never hungry. this country is so rich that there are millions of people like you with extra income for others.

just because the government doesnt do something doens tmean it wont get done. private folks like red give to those in need, and they dont waste it because they are selective. abolish these government programs and let private citizens manage the money. they are far more efficient. let private charities take care of it.

if we stop worrying about the widening income gap we will have so many rich folks that we will be overrun with philanthropists. bil gates is evil and profitt-mongering, but he is also one of the greatest philanthropists that ever lived. and warren buffet wants to be taxed more i guess, but the money he isnt having taken is going to charity through gates.

why do you think we have the social programs? because we passed themk becuase we are generous. would we magically not be generous anymore if these programs didt exist? would you stop helping out if you were not forced to? isnt it more efficient when you help out rather than funnel your money through these programs?
