you are the one that is out of touch. ask a bangladeshi immigrant if he thinks americans are poor. he knows what poor is. you are the one judging what poor is from your first world white perspective. again, there is one thing that is hard to afford, health care. thats all. everything else is cheap. if you cant afford a hosue rent somewhere cheaper. there are apartments in crappy neighborhoods that cost nothing. and food is really cheap. stop having babies. show me a poor person in america and i will show you a fat single mom with cable tv.
Two best (worst) things that I have seen with the Louisiana Purchase Card... 1. When I mention that we will be studying the Louisiana Purchase in class, the kids always ask if I am referring to the food stamp card. 2. I was in line at Winn-Dixie one day and a guy in front of me was buying about 10 packs of steaks. He told the cashier that it was food for his dog since he couldn't put dog food on his LPC. 3. Oh.. There is a third one. My sister likes to throw crawfish boils during the summer. Guess how she buys the crawfish... Needless to say, I refuse to go.
This post actually makes you the one who is out of touch, Martin. First, are Bangladeshi immigrants the new standard here in America? Secondly, you claim that everything but health care is cheap. This while it is well documented that the price of food, gas, heating oil and health care have risen exponentially over the past 20 years while incomes have remained stagnant. I, along with just about every American who has a job, detests those who game the welfare system. It is disgusting and I would love to see some reform that involved time limits for accepting welfare/food stamps, etc. I could show you plenty of poor people who are not fat, single mothers with cable tv. The fact that you actually think this is the case displays nothing more than your own shallow understanding of our society as a whole. Stop blaming poor people for the problems in the country. I find it amazing that wealthy politicians, bankers and wall street barons can phuck our economy all to hell and then turn around and blame it on the poor. Why are you jumping on the bandwagon. We have big problems in this country but the poor are the least of them.
No, no....you are the one who said: "Show me a poor person in america and I will show you a fat single mom with cable tv" These are your words and it is your responsibility to explain them, not mine. Stop trying to put the onus on me and explain to me how every poor person in america is somehow a fat, single mom with cable tv.
you havent really shown me this poor person have you. you dont know anyone who cant afford clothing and shelter and food. when was the last time you saw a hungry person who wasnt an addict? you havent in your whole life. seriously. you have never seen a person that was skinny because they cant afford food. you have definitely seen lower class people that were relatively poor, but they are fat. how many people in america starve every year? 2?
let me ask you another question. imagine you lost everything. how long until you are ok? how long until you have enough money to eat? i suspect you could lose everything tomorrow, start a job as a laborer and afford a crappy apartment within a month. especially if you are a hard worker and speak english really well. thise certainly is not the case in other countries. you could panhandle if you wanted and make plenty. i saw a guy in the subway recently. he was asking for a dollar for train fare. then like 5 minutes later he got on the train. he told me he didnt really need train fare he was scamming. he made 40 in one hour. people are really generous, especially if you are not a drug addict. yunno how long i could eat for on $40? i could eat healthy as hell, store brand oatmeal and bananas and milk and eggs. i would be fitter than anyone. but alas, americans, all of them, they can afford so much food, so much stuff they are fat idiots. they storm wal mart and riot for 5 dollar wafflemakers. they dont even need wafflemakers. you can never have a society where the stupidest people are not relatively poor. but for the most part they are not actually poor. people in third world countries are actually poor. people in botswana are poor.
but you still have not justified your statement that all poor people are fat single moms with cable tv. I wasn't the one who defined what "poor" means, you were. you are trying to escape your statement by asking me to define poor when you have already done that, I am simply asking you to defend your statement that all poor people are fat single moms with cable tv.
I get what you are saying, man, but by that same line of reasoning you could also say that slavery wasn't so bad because we didn't kill them. You are making a very broad comparison here. Are American's over indulgent? You bet your ass we are. No disagreement with you there.
