Nick left to chase a dream which included more money. He regretted leaving and admitted such. Nice spin though.
My thoughts just to release the internal frustration and lower my blood pressure -the fake FG was stupid. Miles was bated by the side line reporter at the start of the game. If I remember right, he was bailed out by a Bama fumble on the 5yd line. -the onsides kick is forgivable. It was a surprise but wasn't executed. -LSU 2nd to last offensive drive was great till Miles chickened out on 3rd and 10. You are aggressive the entire game and decide to play not to lose. Alleman is shaky this year and slipped on an earlier FG. Keep up the pressure and be aggressive and go for the first down. If you get the 1st, the game is over and Metts had been picking apart the D. Let him do it again. If you are going to force Bama to score to win, then why throw away your D game plan when it has worked all game and let them walk the field on you. The bad calls by Les on fake FG and onside kick didn't really kill us and lose the game. The team bailed Miles out on these and Bama bailed him out with a fumble on the 5. The game was lost at the end.
This was the thought in my mind when I started the thread. Why?? .. why would you stop what is working, stop your momentum, when you have them on the ropes?? Mett was getting hotter and hotter. The WRs were getting hotter and hotter. They had a recipe that Bama just couldn't stop .... moving the ball .. fist down after first down. ... then .. bam ... we stop!! It's like watching an indy500 ...at the very last, when the guy in the lead runs out of gas and the second place guy passes him in the final 100 feet. .... except, it was more like we just turned the key off. Herb .. I don't want to get rid of CLM .. and in fact like the guy. But ... dude ... so many people were all too happy to crawl up on top of Mett's shoulders and ridicule the guy. Well .. he proved them wrong last night. Others have criticized CLM .... and we've seen things over the years. Time management, etc etc .... but last night ... he didn't need any trick plays, ... he didn't need the hat ... he was kicking Bama's butt .... but then, recoiled to play it safe, instead of going for the kill. .. and got killed himself.
His decision to keep the ball on the ground and tick more time off of the clock was sound. You can conjecture that we could have made a 1st down through the air on that last drive, but an incomplete pass would have handed Alabama another 35 seconds on the clock. I think Bama's defense was not the only thing tired at the end of the game: so were Jeremy Hill's legs. The bottom line is that our stable of running backs could not get the 1st down we needed on our last drive and our defense did not stop Bama on their last drive when we needed it. Alleman's missed FG at the end of the game was key also. Had he made it, Alabama probably would have had a significantly longer field to march down. This loss was not the result of coaching decisions no matter how some may want to portray it. Were there mistakes? Yes there are in every game by every coach, including the one that was on the other sideline tonight. This loss was about a lack of execution at the critical times we needed our team to dig deep and produce one more time. All 3 phases of the game broke down at the end to salvage a loss for Alabama: offense, defense, and special teams.
Wildcat formation???? Where did that come from? They had been picking up between 2-5 yards per carry all night with the regular offense. Why Wildcat all of a sudden? That was a momentum killer. A first down there and it was most likely game over.
I hate the wildcat - at least our incarnation of snapping the ball to Ware so he does not have 3 steps of steam prior to hitting the line. Seriously...you want to run a wildcat? Do something much bolder than that crap. But also...why switch to the prevent when your regular D was dominating the top ranked team in the land?
Nick Saban did not leave LSU because of fans whining. Nick Saban left for the NFL because he thought he could grow his legend there. If you don't realize the man is all about himself and his reputation, you don't know Nick Saban.
That said, what if the Cleveland Browns offer him tons of cash? There has to be a part of Saban that thinks he ought to try the NFL again. Perhaps that huge ego of his can't handle the lack of success he had at that level.
He has plenty of money, while he won't accept being insulted (offered too little money), the only place Nick Saban will ever go (if leaving Bama) is a place where he can grow his legend and its already a good situation. To be honest, the only place that matches that is Texas. Always has a great recruiting class, Mack Brown has been such a disappointment that if Saban went there he would immediately be loved by Texas fans and destroy the Big 12 year after year instead of having to worry about facing a tough LSU team every season.
