yep hes similar in talent and will last 5 yrs longer on my investment. how do i know that? i dont. i probably just jinxed jarvis into a knee injury.
Jarvis was making those one handed stabs and snags before Beckham was. Sure Beckham did the one handed kickoff thing but it wasn't until the Iowa bowl game his junior year that he made a truly remarkable catch. Jarvis was averaging like 2 or 3 a season. Plus Jarvis started out on special teams obliterating fools in kick coverage. LSU is known for putting track stars on the college football field Trindon Holliday, Xavier Carter, Bennie Brazell, I can't speak for anyone else but I thought early on in 2011 OBJ was just another LSU track star turned receiver. Now he quickly proved me wrong on that one, but Landry was the working man's receiver. Starts on special teams, works his way up to being a starter even though he was a 5 star guy, he blocks, he catches balls in traffic over the middle and he is a beast on 3rd down. Not to mention Jarvis has a knack for taking the ball away from defenders. Don't get me wrong, I love OBJ, but I would take Landry all day every day before him, maybe I'm crazy. If you want to see spectacular, YouTube Landry vs Arkansas. 2 years in a row Jarvis makes unbelievable one handed catches, one for a TD in 2012, and 1 on the play that ended Mettenberger's college career in 2013.
Here you go.. He is my favorite receiver of all time, and he instantly turned me into a Dolphins fan of sorts just by being drafted by Miami.
seems like Im getting the same type of responses I got before...man, with what odell did last year in limited games, it still kinda fascinates me that y'all would take Jarvis...I mean, do you think its because of his heart and emotion that tranquilizes us in a sense?, or are you really seeing a better receiver over Odell?
For me it really comes down to what Tirk said about durability. Beckham has the speed and the big hands, Jarvis is a guy that won't drop the football, can block in the running game which is crucial, and his tenacity. Again you are asking us to choose between 2 diamonds, and against anyone else I would take OBJ. But Landry doesn't have the pedigree, he wasn't inserted as a starting receiver his freshman season, he isn't a blazer either. And remember we are also biased because of what happened at LSU, not what's going on in the league. OBJ had 2 crucial fumbles in 2 crucial moments that could be argued as the plays that lost those 2 games. Jarvis never had a blemish. I do find it odd that Jarvis had so many fumbles last year though. That's out of character for him. The Phins need to do themselves a favor and let him be a receiver though instead of a receiver and a punt returner.
Odell has blossomed quickly, but many of us thought Jarvis had better hands in the moment of the game, believe it or not. As others have indicated, he has phenomenal work ethic, and, IMO, was the more polished receiver coming out. Clearly, Odell has stepped it up, but you've got a gem in JL.
You know now that I think of it, neither one of them would be as good as they are right now without them pushing each other. Sure they probably would have eventually gotten there but damn, that's what competition is supposed to do, wish the same would happen with our qb's.
