It's wonderful to see this new Chavis defense. Outstanding hire and exactly what we needed. Without him we would be in some serious crap. :crystal:
i was going to post this exact same thing. at the beginning of the year i was complaining about us deferring when we'd win the toss because we were not a defensive team anymore. well... can't say that anymore. a million thanks to you john chavis for restoring the pride of lsu -- our defense.
It appears that LSU has eleven defferent players from last season. Its amazing how much quicker and more athletic players appear once they know their assignments.
This defense is playing very well, and we were, in fact, getting to the QB tonight--at last. Great defensive game.
The good news is that this is the last team that runs the spread that we play this year (save for Latex, but they don't count). While we've certainly improved tenfold against the spread, they're probably at their best against a pro-set offense (as is really the case with any defense). So we should see them actually get better. Alabama brings a running game that's 5x as good as any that we've seen yet. But without having to worry about all the misdirection and general chicanery that the spread brings, we should be able to key in on their RB's.
Or even from the first game of the season. They have the same athleticism but they have better tackling techniques as well. Peterson is a great leader for the D in that area. It's rubbing off on everyone else.
