Texas A&M's wave of euphoria that started with that victory at Alabama and crested with Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman Trophy last week took a (huge?) dip Wednesday afternoon when Tech hired Aggie offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury as its head coach. It wasn't shocking since Kingsbury was the obvious choice, but it would have been nice for Tech to announce the hire after A&M's "Celebrating the 12th Man" ceremony where Manziel was the featured guest. ... Aggies rightfully are concerned about who will replace Kingsbury ... Sumlin put a heck of a staff together, something he learned plenty about while working with R.C. Slocum when he coached at A&M the first time and then under Bob Stoops at Oklahoma. You are only as good as your assistants. Kingsbury and defensive coordinator Mark Snyder were unbelievable hires for Sumlin. Sumlin put together a top-notch staff ... A&M athletic director Eric Hyman didn't have enough money to keep Kingsbury, 33, who is getting to live the dream by returning to his alma mater. He has a chance to be the next big story in college football ... We're going to miss those celebrations between Manziel and Kingsbury after touchdowns next season. ...

The TT fans I know are beyond excited about the hire. It's probably a good thing for them to hire a TT guy. I'm sure that Lubbock is not for everyone, but I've never met a TT alum/student who didn't love that school.
