Did you see those large mounds of floating fire ants? So get this, the ants at the bottom sacrifice themselves to make a raft that floats all the other ants. And I just learned something, apparently they don't sacrifice themselves they don't die. Their waxy bodies protect them from the water. Fascinating. https://www.google.com/amp/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-us-canada-41093596
Seems like there's been a lot more focus on animals or at least media coverage. So many people going around in boats picking up dogs, cats, rabbits, that were abandoned. This guy here gets my hat tip. That pit is more than a handful. You wonder what they must be thinking. This picture is so sad to say the least. Floating down a street on an air mattress, with your dog.
At first glance I thought the same thing but if you consider the positioning of where its back left leg would be and compare the shape to its other paws, it's clear that's the bottom part of the leg and paw
When my house flooded in the Philippines I took the gate guards children up to second floor, had about four feet of water downstairs. Had two basketball sized blobs of ants just above the high water line. Pretty gross. At least they weren't fire ants. From second floor window, looked out on street. It was a ragong river, saw dozens of snakes washing/swimming down it. That was really gross.
