That might be true for Texas but it doesn't hold up for Oklahoma this year. They have 9 kids from Texas committed and only two 4*. And their highest rated kid in the state of Texas is #31. Considering all of ours are in the Top 21, I would say we are taking a chunk out of their ass. And if Oklahoma is standing behind us, where do you think the other Texas schools are?
Yes, they have picked up some recruits we didn't offer in the past and done well with them. However, times they are a changin. Miss St. is snacking on a few of our leftovers this year and Oklahoma's average stars look a little bit lower than in previous years.
I agree, beating out Oklahoma for Texas boys is very important. For years Oklahoma has won championships with Texas talent. If we can't beat out A&M, Baylor, Rice, Tech, etc., then shame on us.
Texas has 37 players ranked 4 stars or higher and LA has only 12. Florida has 59 players ranked 4 stars or higher this year on Rivals. I wish we could get our fair share in FLA, but it has proven more difficult to pull them out of there.
Texas is our neighbor, many of the kids in SE Texas are closer to us than any other big programs except for maybe A & M. Plus Texas has only one real bigtime program and a couple of slightly big programs in TTech and A&M. Many of the Houston area kids grow up being LSU fans as we have a tremendous alumni base and good exposure over in that area. Florida has 3 bigtime major programs to contend with and several medium sized programs now that are on the rise in UCF, USF and the other one which I can't remember right now. Plus damn near every SEC and ACC team is in that state trying to mine the gold all the time. Big difference IMO. I love our location and believe we can stay in the top 10 of the recruiting world forever because of it as long as we keep great coaches here. Bet OU is pissed at how well LSU is doing in Texas, it has to hurt them.

When we beat them for our first BCS title his short interview at halftime rubbed me the wrong way. The reporter asked how he would get his offense on track against the #1 defense in the nation. Instead of answering her question politely with the usual coach-speak about how they would move the ball, he chose to chastise and correct her by saying LSU was the #1 defense in one category, but Oklahoma was #1 in another category. I saw him do a similar thing in another interview on television. It is one thing to be proud of your team, but his demeanor comes across as cocky and unwilling to give another team the credit they deserve.
How does that bite them? Because they lose out on great players? Their state has too many good players for UT to take them all...
First of all, it is our choice to honor the scholarship offer or not. Although LSU typically does honor it, these players do not count against the 25/85 scholarship limit.
I agree. We'll never have as much success in Florida as we have in Texas, which I don't think is a real issue. We have made great, great strides with Earl Lane recruiting the state though. And so long as we continue to keep our facilities among the best in the country. Absolutely.
Because they make up their minds on people too early and then dont have room to make a push towards others. Obviously they cant take them all, but there are players out there that are better than the committed ones that want to go to UT that dont have a spot.
