From what I have seen it looks like we are going after a lot of Texas recruits because we are in danger of losing almost 5 of the top 10 in LA. Justin Manning (big time DL with LSU offer) says he will be going to school with Brandon Hines, who is a lesser recruit without an LSU offer but does have offers from Baylor, TX AM, and KS St. I am not sure when the 2 plan on visiting LSU yet, but I will update if I find anything out. Darius James (big time OL with LSU offer) will be going to same school as Naashon Hughes, who is a decent LB recruit with an LSU offer. Naashon was recently hoping for an offer from Texas, but didn't get it and then Texas got a commitment from a LB this weekend; and they say they are only taking 1 LB in this class. Since we have already offered both, it should help us. Darius is planning to visit the weekend of March 17, and hopefully Naashon comes with him. Eldridge Massington WR and Kameron Miles DB are both national ranked prospects who do not have offers from LSU, but are interested. Neither have been on campus yet, but plan on coming for the weekend of March 10. Hopefully they will pick up offers then.
You see this a lot, kids going to the same schools, look at from the same schools (The three kids from Breaux Bridge this year). The thing about Houston, there is more D-1 talent in a 100 mile radius of Houston, than in the state of La. LSU will always have a shot in Tx schools.
correct that deal won't happen Texas and LSU have higher standards than to be forced to take packaged deals, unless they genuinely liked both kids. Now of course A&M or Baylor is a different story. Would not rule that out from happening.
I totally agree... and this will most likely be the case with Brandon Hines. We really want Justin Manning, but Brandon Hines just does not possess the skills to play in the SEC, IMO. Now Darius James and Naashon Hughes both have offers from LSU and both are top national prospects. This could be one that we do take both, because we like both a lot. Massington and Kameron Miles is different. Massngton was the one who showed interest first, be he has not visted campus. He is a decent WR prospect who could possibly play in the SEC. Miles followed Massgton's interest in LSU, and he is the better prospect IMO. I am not sure if LSU has reached out to him, but he is planning to visit with Massington soon, and we'll see if both/one/none are offered on their visit.
So it appears Naashon Hughes has accepted a grayshirt at Texas over a full offer from LSU. It looked like we had a shot at him months ago when he and teammate Darius James expressed some interest in LSU, and they were immediately awarded offers by the staff. They moved LSU high on their list but always seemed to lean towards in-state TX. Both then visited TX, but Naashon did not receive an offer, and then TX took their "one and only" LB commit for 2013 shortly after. This left Naashon very upset and some thought he would then be leaning to LSU, possibly along with Darius Miles. But this morning, Naashon comitted to TX without a formal offer, meaning he will grayshirt unless a scholly opens up. He could be possibly committing just on the hope that one does become free, and they give it to him; and he may end up decommiting if they do force him to grayshirt... but it's very strange that he would pass up a full offer from LSU to take a grayshirt at TX, if that's what ends up happening...
Not shocked with this. That is usually how Texas runs things. Get on the bus early or we will go look elsewhere motto.
It worked...Texas put their pressure and spin on it and have him on board. It isn't like they got him on as a walk-on. He has a full ride to his dream school.
