I carry and hope like hell that I never have to use it...EVER.

Why wouldn't they take the chance? So they wouldn't get shot? These guys all die in shootouts or kill themselves. I doubt they would be deterred by more guns.

What I think arming people does is cut the mass murderer's murdering short.

That's a reasonable argument and it may do so. But it is not a deterrent. The problem is that I don't want to live in a world where lots of people are walking around with guns at schools. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Right, but they don't want to just die in a blaze of glory, they want to be immortalized by taking out as many people as they can first. Denying them an undefended target rich environment denies them at least part of their motivation.

There is literally nothing preventing people from carrying today. And as posted here a bunch of times there is no reason to believe that this would lead to more shootings, responsible gun owners are not the people you should be afraid of. All this law does is empower them not the guy with evil on his mind or the guy dreaming of being a hero. They already could be and probably are carrying.

I tend to agree, but statistics will still insist that accidents and "regrettable incidents" will happen.

Indeed. Or grade schools having armed teachers, or scoutmasters toting assault rifles, or Baptist preachers with six-guns and cowboy hats. Let's put more cops where we need them instead of encouraging Joe Sixpack to be a vigilante.

We're talking about carrying at schools. That is currently illegal. Open or concealed.

You must have gotten your coonass whipped by an Oakdale redbone at the Evangeline Club at least once. Tell me the truth, Cuz, . . . could you take an old-fashioned ass-whipping and keep your pistol in your pocket? I happen to know that I can and I am confident Shane can. I suspect that one of you can. But Joe Average? Even worse . . . Marge Average?
