Two words... Silent Consent. Its no different from "peaceful white southerners" who did nothing to stop violence against blacks for the 100 years following the Civil War up througj the 1960s.
There are some distinctions to be made here. Not every muslim is an islamist. Few are, in fact. Most muslims are religious, but more concerned with making a living and raising children than with Islam. Islamists are muslim fundamentalists who, like all fundamentalists, are characterized by moral conservatism, literalism, and the attempt to implement religious values in all spheres of life. These are political movements like the Muslim Brotherhood that work via politics rather than violence. Radical islamists are those that attempt to do this via violence and terror. Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Qaida, ISIS, and such. Whoa, Varmint! There are no Christians, Buddhists, or Jews on Star Trek either.
French police have been told to carry their firearms. While I agree it would be nearly impossible to use military action to ferret out the islamic weasels, it has to be part of the bigger solution unless and until moderate muslims in places like Turkey take to the streets a la Paris. There are over 1 million names on the "watch list" and not nearly enough people to do the watching over the long haul. Terrorists need only be patient. Case in point, cherif kouachi had been on the watch list but hadn't done anything recently so they quit watching him. The world has to depend on muslims to turn in other muslims, even if it's family. That's not likely to happen because they live in fear. Who else will stand in the gap? The French like to march but only in their Merrells.
There is something wrong with any cop who has to be told to carry their firearm. It should be just another part of getting dressed for work.
It was appalling to watch that cop laying injured on the sidewalk and unable to defend himself with nothing other than his own hands and get shot in the head anyway. He's the one who I believe said " nothing wrong here brother" to the terrorist at that moment. I also think he was Muslim.
So here's what I don't understand..... 17 people dead in Paris. Du Monde headline calls it "France's 9/11" (insulting IMO). The world unites and gives all their support. 2 days ago Boko Haram attacked a village in Northern Nigeria and opened fire, killing some 2,000 innocent villagers. Yesterday a 10 year old girl approached a market strapped with explosives and they were detonated killing 20 people. Where is the world's outrage against these Sunni islamists and support for the people of Nigeria? Anyone?
