No, there was not the same magnitude of drops as there are this year.

Eliminator and others are really just frustrated that we're SO close to being a dominant dynasty, but they fail to realize that Miles is the reason we are so close. Chavis was at Tennessee and played a part in those five and six loss seasons that ultimately led to the dismissal of a proven coach (and their current tailspin, I might add), so you can't say that our success is solely on him. Our ST coordinator plays a huge part. Our talent comes from recruiting, which is a product of all the coaches. All of these hires are Miles' doing. The gutsy fourth-down calls that led to the W against Florida in 2007, and ultimately our championship that year, were all on him. The same thing happened again with the infamous "bounce pass" vs UF and the TE reverse against Bama. These are the direct, on-field result of Les Miles' coaching. And I know you can name several instances of straight BS, like clock management and whatnot, but unfortunately nobody is perfect, and Jesus isn't available. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.

Regardless of the root causes, down years happen to the best coaches. Mack Brown, Saban, Stoops, Bowden, Paterno, even Carrol had years where the ball did everything it could to NOT bounce their way. If we lose three or four this year, it's not all that unusual. You can't name a single coach that has shown immunity to this. So who would you have??

3 or 4 losses this year isn't necessarily a disaster, but I will say this. If this offense continues to look the way it's looked now mostly for the last 5 years, it's only a matter of time for Miles. We are going to continue to slide until we figure out the offense. My opinion is that they need a real offense coordinator and they need to keep Miles' hands off of it. If Miles is unwilling to do this, he will go down with the fortunes of his offense.

Yeah, I remember last year. It was a magical season that I think doesn't happen often if ever again. All those defensive TDs and special teams big plays is not something that you can count on to supplement a stuggling offense. Unfortunately, every other year since 2008 has kind of looked like this this one. Great defense and great special teams that are asked to carry too much of the burden for an inept offense. You can consistently win 8 or 9 games with what we have because we are flat out better than at least 8 or 9 of our opponents every year, but it's not enough to get you consistently over the hump against those teams that match up with you.

Our offense was pretty decent in 2008 with J-Lee, minus the turnovers...it was our defense that dropped the ball, so to speak, that year. In 2009, Lee was a basketcase and JJ was "meh", at best. Those years of post-Perrilloux syndrome likely affected WR recruiting, which we are currently feeling the detriments of. You give us the WRs of the last two years and the OL that we were SUPPOSED to have coming into this year, and we're talking about a completely different offense...maybe even a dominant one.

But we DO consistently get over the hump against those teams that match up with us.

Does everyone agree that if we execute the game plan all season long we are 6-0? And look dominant against lesser teams?

Yep, well said. The difference is our talent level has dipped just a little. It will continue to show a downward trend if things don't change quickly. Time will tell. Hope I'm wrong...but I'm not.

IF that is the case, why didn't recruiting tank after 08 & 09?
