I couldn't get too far into this article - it started like a sob story and kept getting worse. BARF. His time at LSU was full of underachieving IMO; probably would have another NC if not for him.
I never thought he should have been the first pick in the first place. He skyrocketed up the draft after that bowl win against ND, but teams had been scoring at will against that ND defense all season. And, I thought that that win was more of a reflection of the talent of that LSU team vs. Russell carrying his team to victory. But, when I saw him get interviewed right after the Raiders picked him, then I knew he was going to be a complete bust. He was like a little kid in a candy store, talking about all the Southern fried food he was going gorge on now that he didn't have to make weight for the draft. If apnea was such a obstacle, then he should have lost weight. How much did his weight ballon up when he was in the NFL?
Regardless of how he blew is opportunity in the NFL the dude has a big heart and is genuine. I saw that on several occasions working games. He has my respect for that.
