Have to admit, this article has changed my opinion about Jarmacus. I wish him all the best. The No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft should be out on the field commanding an NFL team this Sunday. JaMarcus Russell, though, is home in Mobile, absorbing shots to his character and resting on what's left of his $39 million. The most maligned figure in football tells his side. The Man Who Isn't There
Good read and he was a winner at LSU all the rest does not really matter to me. I wish him luck in the future and the raiders still suck!!!!!!!!
I always wanted to hear his side. Can't make an excuse for everything but it's good to hear from him. I hope he does make an effort to come back and prove the doubters wrong. Although Al Davis was a bad owner, he was a good guy and gave JaMarcus an opportunity.
I read something like this and I don't know whether to feel sad or disgusted. Disgusted that after all this time he still carries around a laundry list of excuses for why he failed in the NFL. The only thing I feel sympathy for him on this front are the death of his uncle and other family members. Lots of players grow up poor and come from bad neighborhoods. Lots have to deal with two-faced coaches, players and owners once they make it into the league. Lots of them don't have the talent around them they feel they need to win. And despite all of that, a lot of them succeed because they have to drive and work ethic to succeed. Sad because of the utter waste of God-given talent and ability. Sad because he's turned into the pro football version of M C Hammer. The same community in Mobile who thinks he's Santa because of all the goodies he gives out will turn his back on him in a second once all the money (and handouts) run out. Sad that even today, with even a modicum of discipline and motivation, he could make it back to the NFL and be permanently financially secure for himself and his family in less than a decade. He seems perfectly content to sit in that Mobile barbershop until what's left of the $39M is gone. I wonder if his little cheerleading section will still have his back then.
The article quoted John Lucas as saying those reports that he gave up on JaMarcus were incorrect. Lucas confirmed the sleep apnea. I think the circus surrounding the Raiders organization contributed to his failure. I also think JaMarcus could've had a better work ethic. There were a lot of factors at play. If eleven of my close friends/family passed away (including an uncle that was basically his father) in a two year period, I know it would have a major effect on me.
I think people have to justify why he didnt succeed. He just isnt a good NFL QB. Aaron Rogers isnt a good QB because he has a good life coach, has a good looking portfolio, and drives a Prius to limit his carbon footprint.
openly judging someone that you don't know, to a bunch of anonymous people on the internet, is something that small-minded people do. no offense, just something to chew on.
