McGee should be moving up the depth chart, but I kind of like saving him and his speed for the second half. His fresh legs really showed. Kent State was worn down by mid-3rd quarter. Blue and Hillard need to step it up some or its going to be all Hill and McGee. Blue found the hole better this week but Hilliard is not running with a lot of authority.
Our pass-catching fullbacks complicate things for defensive coordinators. Cameron still hasn't shown passes to the running backs . . . but you know it is coming.
Magee deserves everything he gets. He's giving his all for some playing time and it shows. Blue is great but kind of get the feeling he runs on cruise control and doesn't hit the hole hard enough. He may be a little tall and lanky to be a dominant running back. Honestly think Blue may need to consider switching to WR to have a chance in the NFL. But who knows, I'm def no NFL scout.
Agree Red, I like bringing a fresh Magee in during the second half, although in a tight game we may need him earlier.
Again, we have a wealth of running backs, along with two fullbacks who also are a problem for defenses. This is a luxury, as many teams don't have true fullbacks any more. Hill, of course, is far and away the best of the bunch, and we knew that coming in. He is not facing a sophomore slump, like we've seen with backs like Hilliard, or even going back to Justin Vincent and Keiland Williams. Terrance Magee is definitely asserting himself as the #2 guy...with a vengeance.
I know people are saying Hill is far and away the best. . . But dang if Magee isn't a beast with the ball. Did anyone else pay attention to his TD run? Dude ran into his blocker. . .knocked I'm and the person he was blocking down, lost all of his momentum and a defender latched on that he drug into the endzone. He's not a scat back. He's a freaking grease lightning power back. Hill has done nothing but prove his is still our starting RB but Magee has taken advantage of every chance he gets the ball. 9 carries 108 yards and a TD. Heck even Blue averaged 5.6 ypc. In any world that is considered great for a RB. Unfortunately for GM he's got a guy averaging 10 and 12 ypc ahead of him. Think Cam hasn't had an influence? Last year Magee was a slot WR that we heard not a lot about. This year cam comes in and moves him to RB. BOOM.
In all fairness, last year, we were very, very thin at WR and very RB-heavy by having Ware and Ford, in addition to Hill and Hilliard (and Blue before he was injured). Perhaps, that's where the coaches felt he could make the biggest contribution (he didn't, of course.)
