What are the chances we get this stud out of Texas? Five star WR standing 6'4" and runs a 4.47 forty. He's got LSU high on his list and is set to make a visit for the Bama game. We need a dominating performance against the elephants and we need the stadium to be rockin. http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?sport=1&pr_key=43493
He's a good WR, not worthy of the number 1 ranking in the country though, IMO. He does have some grade issues, but if the coaches really want him - I think we stand a very good chance of getting him. The thing is, all of our WR recruits this year have questionable grades & the coaches are looking to balance talent with who we think we can actually get on campus.
I'd say much better than a few weeks ago. I found it very interesting that neither Texas or Texas A&M were on the list, especially that several weeks ago he stated LSU and Texas A&M were his two favorites. This, of course, does not mean that LSU will land him, but I would say our chances have improved.
I'm not calling you a liar or anything, but how do you know all of this stuff about their grades? I can't find it on Rivals... maybe i just am looking in the wrong place? Either way, these kids have a lonnnnnnng time before graduation, and they always seem to pull it out in their last semester, when they have no more high school football to worry about.
He told UT he didnt like their depth chart. UT looks at Texas first unless they must go out of state. They liked Malcom Williams almost as much as Bryant and Tolliver, Malcom wanted to commit and will definately qualify so they took him and shut down WR recruiting. Chiles will be given the chance to play QB, then maybe move to a Raymonce Taylor type position. So that's one possible two WRs they have. They dont lose anyone this year unless Sweed leaves early, and I don't think he will. So it was a mutual thing. Tamu wants him, but I guess he no longer is interested. However, a couple of months ago, I think we were the frontrunner for him, now I think some other schools have pulled even. With Bowe and Davis graduating, and with JR possibly and MF, RP and JL definately here next year, i think we have the best oppurtunity with him. He will compete with 4 sophomores for the #2 and #3 spot in the WR rotation and that is very important to him. Florida is loaded at WR. USC is loaded at WR. Oklahoma has no QB next year. So I think we have the best situation for him in that we are deep at QB, a premiere program and thin at WR. It seems like situation is very important to Terrance. Dez we apparently lead for. DD thinks we will honor Gabe Bryant's commitment, but that's DD. Thompson, who knows. Regardless, we will get a very good WR class again. If we get Joe (please) he will probably contribute a good bit at WR also.
Try the message boards. I no longer subscribe to Rivals - I'm with Scout now, but both boards have their insiders plus the guys that run the sites share a lot more scoop on there. And most of them are expected to be able to pull their grades up, which is why you don't hear much about it (except for the ones that have a really long way to go - like Dez). BUT, it is still a gamble and the coaches have to balance the risk with the reward.
We haven't been in contact with Dez (much to his dissapointment) for several months because of grades, but we are keeping up with his coaches to keep tabs on him. Also, I've been hearing he is pretty slow... We cannot honor Gabriel's commitment because we already pulled the scholarship offer. However, we may re-extend it to him if his grades improve the way they supposedly have been. He's been fantastic this season & is one of the best WRs in the country. Joe will play WR explicity his first year here according to those in the know.
Why in the world Scout? They're slower on their commit list updates and usually seem to be less accurate with their stars versus Rivals?? Just curious...
