and also be able to stop all the nabbing of the Tennessee recruits by the scummy Lane&O company that has been going on.......
imo, if recruits are stupid enough to fall for kitten's and o's sh*t with what all they have pulled, then good luck to em at usc. they will need it.
If that happens Fulmer has won the political battle. Petrino can not take the job at Tennessee even if they want him and he wants them. There is supposedly something in his contract that prevents him from taking another SEC job for a certain period of time.

Well a guy named "Calhoun" coaching at Tennessee seems appropriate I guess. Fact is this guy probably runs a tight ship and has great integrity. Which is something UT really needs right now. Kiffen really embarrased that program and not by leaving. That was the best thing that could have happened to the SEC and UT. But his behavior and some of the players he was bringing in showed he was a mess. This guy may not make them national champions but he will at least clean up the mess Kiffen created. I am sure many of their recruits this year will be bolting though.
Would hate to see Calhoun leave the Academy. He did a hell of a job cleaning up the mess DeBerry left.
He certainly appears to be a man of discipline and integrity. Not only has he coached at the USAF Academy for seven years (three as HC), but he is an Academy grad himself (Class of '89). He finished at the Academy on the superintendent's list and graduated with over a 3.0 grade point average and a military performance average of better than 3.0. He then served his country from 1989-95 as an active duty officer in the Air Force. Also, his only sibling (his sister) is also a USAF Academy grad (Class of '91). She was also a 10-time track and cross country All-American who won six NCAA national titles. Like his bio on the Air Force pages says: "The U.S. Air Force Academy's purpose is to develop young people of strong character who graduate and serve as outstanding leaders for our country. It's a purpose Troy Calhoun thoroughly respects and appreciates....Air Force student-athletes must complete one of the nation's most demanding academic curriculums while further embedding the kind of heart and character that are a crucial foundation for service. Each cadet at the Academy must work through classes that require finishing over 140 semester hours. Strong character traits, to include respect, teamwork, courage, spirit, discipline, honesty and toughness, are the bedrock for their leadership qualities on active duty. Calhoun and his staff have found a way to parlay the varied demands of their players into a cohesive team on the field that has fared quite well... His players have also been amazingly successful finishing their academic and leadership responsibilities. The Air Force football team's most recent NCAA APR is an astounding 983 which once again places the Academy amonst the nation's top three in the sport of football. A total of 58 players (from the Academy classes of 2008-12) have started at least one game since Calhoun became head coach. All 36 members of that group from the classes of 2008-09 have graduated from the Academy and are currently serving on active duty in the Air Force. There are 21 players from the classes of 2010, 2011 and 2012 that are on track to graduate with their respective classmates." Player Bio: Troy Calhoun - AIR FORCE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
If it is Calhoun, does he bring his offense with him to the SEC? I'm skeptical that the triple option can succeed in the SEC. Maybe he'll change his offensive philosophy if he is hired. Appears that UT needs that discipline that he will bring though.
I don't know. I think it is. Texas Wins at: Recruiting - The State of Texas is a hotbed Much better place to live - Austin vs Knoxville No potential recruiting violations Superior academics Easier conference to win in but still well respected and BCS Even: Fan bases about the same Resources Tenn Wins at: Can't think of any
He was an NFL OC for the Texans, and he didn't run the triple-option with them. Not sure if he ran the triple-option at the NCAA teams he was OC at (Ohio and Wake Forest). Could be that he just ran the triple-option with AF because that is what they had been running when he took over.
