Amigo, the wires could be buried a foot deep. But that's simple radio technology. With GPS technology, they won't even need wires. Put four GPS transmitters in the stadium and the ball will know its position within millimeters. Wi-fi broadcast to the officials iPad and the TV monitors and we never have to wait on a chain gang or a referees judgement again. We will know instantly when a first down was made, where the ball passed out of bounds, and whether a touchdown or field goal was made. It's going to happen. Someone has already patented the technology and it has been used in rugby and may be tested in the NFL soon. I wonder if they are on NASDAQ . . .
This isn't anything against you personally, lsutiga, but I absolutely hate the idea of keeping the "human element" in sports. I want to punch the TV watching baseball games. Umpires are calling pitches way off the plate strikes and you always hear "well, that's just part of the game". Referees/umpires are there as a neutral third party. They shouldn't have an effect on the game.
I've wondered about things like this for a couple of years now. Same with baseball. The technology exist to call balls and strikes too. Also why not 'review' close calls at bases? Who knows?
Baseball takes long enough without technology. Now, if they institute a rule saying the beer is free during reviews, I may be onboard.
