I don't see it. They had some really, really good players, but so does this team Magic and Bird make the roster look sweet, but those two were well past their prime. Laettner is garbage and Shaq then was the equivalent of Howard now, only being able to dunk and block shots. Kidd Kobe James Anthony Howard that's real similar to an Old Magic, Jordan, Old Bird, Malone, Shaq. EDIT: The original dream team beat Brazil 127-83 and that brazil team had no NBA guys. This Brazil team has two potential all-stars, so at the end of the night, we can compare the results and see.
The original Dream Team would win, but this group is more athletic. It would be close. People just don't understand how much the game has improved over the last decade. Not only was the Dream Team good, but the international teams in '92 sucked....reeeaaalllyyy bad. I mean, an international guy asked MJ while he was shooting a free throw if he would sign an autograph for his son after the game. :hihi:
I actually think this team would have a chance to win, because of defense. The original dream team gave up 75-80 points a game to these losers in a 40 minute game. Now, maybe it would have been different if they had to get serious, but that's still no excuse. This team is giving up 55-60 a game with the same point margin.
plus the original dream team was giving up 75-80 points to international teams that weren't nearly as good as the current international teams are. I would like to see the NBA adopt a set of rules closer to the international game.
shaq wasn't on that team. laettner never played unless they were up by 50.. 1992 USA Men's Olympic Team Roster NAME POS HGT WGT AGE AFFILIATION (SCHOOL) HOMETOWN Charles Barkley F 6-6 250 29 Phoenix Suns (Auburn) Bala Cynwyd, PA Larry Bird F 6-9 220 35 Boston Celtics (Indiana State) Brookline, MA Clyde Drexler G 6-7 222 30 Portland Trail Blazers (Houston) Portland, OR Patrick Ewing C 7-0 240 30 New York Knicks (Georgetown) Fort Lee, NJ Earvin Johnson G 6-9 220 32 Los Angeles Lakers (Michigan State) Beverly Hills, CA Michael Jordan G 6-6 198 29 Chicago Bulls (North Carolina) Chicago, IL Christian Laettner F 6-11 235 22 Duke University Angola, NY Karl Malone F 6-9 256 29 Utah Jazz (Louisiana Tech) Salt Lake City, UT Chris Mullin F 6-7 215 29 Golden State Warriors (St. John's) Alamo, CA Scottie Pippen G/F 6-7 210 26 Chicago Bulls (Central Arkansas) Northbrook, IL David Robinson C 7-1 235 27 San Antonio Spurs (U.S. Naval Acd.) i really, really thought he was, because I remember an old action figure I had of him from around that time in a blue uniform, but I just looked through some old pics and realized it was an eastern conference all-stars uniform, so I stand corrected.
There was a lot of hubbub about Laettner getting on it and not Shaq. The decision was dumb when they made it, and looks unbelievably dumber in hindsight. Of course, that was probably the height of Duke mania, and the media loved Laettner.
Kobe is already showing tonight why he is the best in the world. His defense is unmatched when it comes to the stars. He is a freak on both sides of the court. Howard is blocking shots out of control too.
