Texas needed to have .01 put back on the clock to escape with a very unimpressive win over Nebraska. TCU rolled it's way to a 12-0 record and a #4 National ranking. Offensively TCU averaged 469 ypg compared to Texas 451 ypg. TCU averaged 41 ppg Texas 43 ppg Defensively TCU allowed 12.4 ppg Texas 15.4 ppg Not as a huge disparity in strength of schedule as you might think... TCU 68 Texas 41 What would be sweeter than another Mountain West team crushing the Tide on the biggest stage. I hope TCU leapfrogs Texas. The computers will probably disagree though.
Not to change the subject but Texas was awfully lucky to escape with that game. Colt McCoy was very lucky that ball landed out of bounds with time left on the clock. That was almost a screwup for the ages like Chris Webber, etc. I think TCU should play Bama also.
Further padding the case for TCU to get the opportunity. TCU has three wins over teams ranked in the final top 25 (Clemson, Utah, and BYU). TCU has faced three top-20 defenses (Air Force, Clemson, and Utah) and two more in the top 50 (BYU and Virginia), a much harder slate of defenses than Cincy and Texas combined, making the TCU offensive stats all the more impressive. TCU is effective both running and throwing the ball, ranked No. 6 in rushing, No. 3 in passing efficiency, No. 6 in scoring offense, and No. 8 in total offense. Of course, everyone knows about TCU's amazing defense. Only one team (Clemson) has over 300 yards against them, while seven other teams were held to under 250 yards. TCU's signature out-of-conference win is over ACC Atlantic Division winner Clemson in Death Valley, where other teams, such as Boston College, have gone and been completely shut down. TCU's utter destruction of BYU was one of the best performances of the entire college football season.
You believe TCU is the best team in the nation? The best 2 teams played each other last night. It may not have been billed as the NC game but anyone with any football sense knows it was. There IS NOT a conference in the nation that could field a team to beat either Alabama or Florida. Except of course another SEC team. When Alabama plays for the national championship, it's gonna be another SEC blowout. It's happened before, it'll happen again. No matter what any conference believes, the scoreboard never lies. I don't like Nick Saban, but he's a helluva coach and his team deserves the crystal ball he'll be hanging in his athletic dept after he beats the hell outta Texas.
I think Florida has been over rated all season long...and got exposed yesterday. I hope they drop like a rock in the polls like a lot of other teams did this year. They really were protected by the refs like Michael Jordan was. (He never walked...he was Michael Jordan.)
Very good team? Yes. Best team in the nation? Not quite. It pains me to write it but that recognition belongs to Bama.
I am not sure if they are the Best but they are in the top 2, Texas is not the best team in Texas this year.....
