I am probably not the guy to ask, I have only met him one time when I played golf w him during a Lettermans Club fund raiser. He had just started at TCU and was obviously watching anything and everything he said. He does seem very personable which IMO was a large improvement over the OC he replaced. Justin Anderson, the other OC is known for his recruiting and he has snuck into LA a few times over the past few years to get some players. Fuente is from Oklahoma so I guess he had to learn the Texas system. Anderson is from Tyler so he grew up with an obvious advantage.
Seems like anything Fuentes could bring to the table from a recruiting standpoint is lagniappe. I'm sure someone else who follows recruiting more closely can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not aware of any high-profile recruit we snagged because of Crowton. Last I heard his only real connections were in frickin New Hampshire, and that got us who, Hatch?
This guy looks pretty good! Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't TCU run a lot of Pro and Pistol sets too? That may be just what Miles is looking for.
:geaux: Anybody got any educated guesses of when we might hear anything one way or the other on Fuente / the OC job in general? :LSU231:
I think we're looking at a 1 to 2 week process. Miles will carry out due diligence as he should. There's no great rush. Obviously they would like to get it settled comfortably before signing day (first Wednesday in February) and I am sure we will. By this time next week I am sure we'll hear the strong rumor as to who it will be with only the announcement being left early the next week.
The rest of TCU's stats are found here: 2010 TCU Football Ranking Summary As you will find, TCU seems to have utilized multiple backs (something Les likes using here--which is good, because we seem to have good depth most years at the position). Ed Wesley was their primary back, ranking 46th in the nation at an 82 ypg ave. Followed by Matthew Tucker at 54 ypg, Waymon James at 47 ypg. Would ANY of you have a problem if Ware, Ford and Blue averaged 82, 54 and 47 yards per game rushing for '11??? I sure wouldn't Not to say you always hire the first thing you see, but Fuente seems to be a pretty "low risky, high reward" type guy right now. The more I read about him, the more I like him. Another important factor in Fuente is that he's been based in Dallas--which has been a hotbed for recruiting for us. Which means he's already VERY familiar with recruiting grounds in Texas.
i hadnt heard about this guy until the other day when he was mentioned. i knew the name was familiar, and i was told he is an ex-ou guy. i guess that is why. but i agree, the more i hear about him, the more i like him. and the dallas/north texas area ties for recruiting would be great!
