Tasmin Mitchell Returning! ESPN & Tigerbait websites reporting that he's decided to wait another year before turning pro. He says he'll turn in his paperwork tomorrow to take his name out of the NBA draft. per WAFB tv in BR
Re: Tasmin Mitchell Returning! I think the team will benefit from his experience and leadership in a big, big way. Hope he stays healthy.
Here's ESPN's report. LSU Tigers' Tasmin Mitchell says he'll pull out of NBA draft - ESPN This is just a tremendous thing for next year's team, and hopefully for Tas' as well. I love it as well, b/c mark my words... so many folks on the board doubt whether coming back will make any difference... Tas' is too slow, can't play 3, etc. He is an incredibly hard worker and has stepped up to every challenge put in front of him. Between his hard work this summer at the Lucas camp in Houston and working under Trent Johnson, I'm hoping he will really elevate his stock next year. Even if he doesn't, he will be long remembered as one of the greatest players at LSU and serve as a great role model for future teammates. Stay in school and things will take care of themselves... :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige Now we just need Noel Johnson to make a visit to Tigertown...
Thank you Tasmin for making the right choice. You will be the leader for this team in every way possible and can help bring up the younger players and mold them. LSU basketball has a chance next season. Thank goodness.
As the news hits every wire, here is S.I.'s interview. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/ncaa/06/08/mitchell.ap/index.html?eref=si_ncaab What I think is an interesting tidbit here is Tas' quote: "I'm coming back to a great program and a great coach," said Mitchell, a native of Denham Springs, La. "My family has really supported me in this process and in the end the best thing was for me to come back to LSU, get my degree and have one more year to be a Tiger." Not to cast stones at the prior regime, but when's the last time that one of their star recruits/players made that call? I think when we consider the captain of the ship and what kind of program he's running, it can't just be about x's and o's or winning. If a coach does his job, fundamentally cares about his kids, teaches them the value of an education, helps them get better as men and as players, and does it with dignity and respect it does make a difference. And, it's no secret to kids like Marcus and Tas' (Bo, and Malcolm White) that Trent and his staff does make them better. That belief in these players and future players will be huge as Trent builds a sustainable program that improves over time. I know he won't accept this praise, but I think somewhere in this story, Trent deserves some praise too. Here's a kid that's turned down $ to play ball, even if it was potentially in Europe, so that he could get his degree and play another year in Baton Rouge to get coached up for another year. I'm looking forward to seeing Tas' play next year and Trent coach. :geauxtige:geauxtige BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA.
